If that is what you believe, why not ask yourself the same question? Why do you continue to hang around?

easily my least favorite type of Gator post - the True Fan Gatekeeping post. all the snowflakes hate it when people post critical takes, everyone is supposed to be Super Happy Online after losing seasons.

this is an online message board, it was basically created for this *exact* thing - letting off steam and commiserating with fellow fans when the team does poorly.

    Lighten up, Francis

Lighten up? I’m not the one who’s been throwing a temper tantrum for years on end. I simply said maybe he should ask himself the same question he is asking our players. Did you have a problem with him asking the question or just me?

my entire point was that you’ve taken up an issue with another poster’s opinion and free speech. you could not have read my past posts, made a comment about my criticisms, and then take the position that I don’t support speech.

my opposition is with the boundaries that your sensitivities place upon the speech of others.

I didn’t say he wasn’t allowed to ask his question. I said he should also ask himself the same question. How exactly is that limiting free speech (which, btw, isn’t some god given right on a privately owned website)? Are negative opinions only allowed if they’re directed towards our athletic dept, players, coaches, etc? Are we not allowed to question other posters? Or, in this case, simply ask them the exact same question that they, themselves, have already asked?

Curious why you would say that. I'm not sure about basketball, but I think NIL deals for CURRENT PLAYERS is actually our NIL strategy, and what we've done well. We might not be playing with the big boys yet when it comes to using NIL to recruit or get transfers, but I think we take good care of our own.

Everyone is entitled to his opinion, but, IMO, you lose all of your credibility when you opine that Reeves was the second best player on the team.

The only people who have loyalty are the fans and alums. Coaches and player are out there to make it rich at the schools. It’s the reality. We are all gonna wake up soon and say this is bs !

Agree. My fear is that top players will transfer to UK and play for an under-performing coach simply for NIL money.

The challenge with sports now is that the star player on a bad team is solicited behind the screens via HS coach, handler, parents of a NIL agent to go elsewhere. Highest bidder. We are down now and will make it even tougher to get back up. We spent less than almost all SEC programs on basketball and we took a coach that had no NCAA tourney or P5 experience and it shows. Had we hired coach Xavier did, entirely different story. The FDU coach has more NCAA tourney wins than our coach. The same was true of Mike White when hired. Experience matters. Will not get lucky with a Billy d often. Even with Billy, he had played and won in tourney, he had coached as an Assistant at KY and won, and he had won and recruited well at Marshall. Much different than White and Golden. Much different to sell kids. Our coach looks like a college student with young face and very skinny. Look at who UM hired when they had an opening. We do the opposite

Why would I say that? Because the collective has not comprehensively tapped into the vast resources of our alumni! And even it it does, very few alumni are going to make ANY commitment to making Florida more attractive when there has been an obvious deficiency in coaching results in basketball for the last 8-9 years (save maybe one or two seasons).

We’ll see what numbers he puts up when he goes to a program with competent coaching!

i don’t. I did not watch one game after I saw the direction the program was heading. The transfers WERE NOT the answer - PERIOD. This year we have no remarkable people coming from traditional recruiting. That would not have happened with at least 10 other coaches we could have pursued when White finally conceded he was not up to par.

perhaps the cast majority of you are delusionally optimistic. But I have lived through the bad times and the food times at Florida. The good times came when MARQUEE players routinely committed to the program. This has not been the case post Donovan.

When we get a closer- a coach who can bring in superstars from HS year in and year out. I will start watching basketball again.

Yet, here you are. If something made me as miserable as you seem to be, I would find another way to use my time.

    UF doesn't care about basketball.
Second to last only to Miss State(measly 30k more) in recruiting/operational costs.
Think about it. Ole Miss spends more.
Headscratcher of a hire in Golden. Cheap.

It is a real shame. I probably haven't religiously followed Gator basketball since 18-19.
When Allen, Hayes, and Hudson graduated, my passion waned a bit. I think I watched every game that year.
Not counting walk-ons, we lost 8 players off that team.
Okauru, Johnson, Hudson, Allen, Hayes, Stokes, Ballard, and Stone. It felt like the next season was a completely different team and even with some stud recruits (Lewis/Mann) and solid transfers (Duruji/Appleby/Blackshear) it felt tough to be invested.
That team underachieved and, combined with White's brand of boring basketball, I found it harder to stay engaged. The next year I watched much fewer games and just wasn't into it like prior years. Obviously we continued to underachieve with White.
This year I had a bit of renewed hope, as we seemed to have a good team on paper, a new coach, and we finally beat FSU. Obviously, the season didn't end as we would have liked.
We have no recruits coming in to get excited about. We are losing our best player and likely lose Kugel as well. It really makes me wonder if we will ever achieve our former glory.

I’m not failing to realize anything and I’m not spreading any notions, one way or another. I simply asked you the same question that you asked of our players, and then made a simple statement that if I were as miserable as you, I would not continue to waste my time and energy on the thing that made me so miserable.
