Golden may or may not succeed, but this is nothing at all like DeVoe. He is in a class of his own in how to tear down a program.
Necessary, unfortunately. If you look at the rotation this past year, the majority were already kids Golden brought in (Lofton, Bonham, Kugel, Richard, Fudge against Jones, Reeves, CC, JJ). Hopefully we get all of Golden's kids to stay (fingers crossed on Kugel), but an nice balance of super seniors and longer-term portal guys, plus (again, fingers crossed) Thomas as a 2023 reclass could give us a competitive roster next year. Interesting discussion somewhere on Twitter about the best way to build a program going forward. Thing that stuck out to me was the conversation about developing your own guys and using the portal selectively. You definitely see that with the more stable programs in the country, but it takes time to actually get kids you can develop. Hopefully we figure out that balance. But you pretty much should expect heavy turnover early for a new staff. And Golden obviously comes from a background that avails itself off "alternative" remedies (like heavy portal usage, international guys, grad transfers, etc).
How do you say we have no fight if the team rallies back from these deficits consistently? I watched those games and there were a variety of reasons in each of them. Specifically, in the first half of the TAMU game not one damn shot would fall. My opinion is that we were not prepared for what the other team wanted to do and that is on coaching. By the same measure, our coaching seemed to be excellent adjusting after the half. I like though how you just dismiss what the team did in the second half to support your argument. I mean, that's really what you HAVE to do to make the argument, right? One would think that if your premise was true, they would simply have collapsed after getting behind. I'm not suggesting that there were not times where this team could have had better effort, clearly there were, but IMO effort wasn't what made this team what it is. Why not go tell CC that he didn't have effort.
Where? That would be shocking. Definitely has potential as a three and D guy. But his greatest strength now is his jumper, which is something you can develop in the league. He doesn't have a terrific foot quickness, hops, athleticism, length, handles, etc., and that's what the league usually targets.
Isn't Jay Wright available? Why are we wasting time on unproven coaches? We have become a sanctuary university for them!
Have to believe you meant a first round grade on Riley Kugel? Richard is not considered a first round talent at this time.
We are now the laughingstock of the SEC with our no-name coaches, terrible recruiting and awful performances in football and basketball. UCF (!!!) owns us in both major sports. That's unacceptable.
I mean, who is laughing at us? Didn't UGA hire MW from us, why would they laugh at us? They finished the year losing 6 games in a row in hoops and we've won like the last 8 hoops games vs them. Auburn just had to fire Bryan Harsin after 2 years? South Carolina hired Lamont Paris and want him fired after 1 year and we beat them in football by 30+. LSU finished last in the SEC in hoops. Ole Miss is paying Lane Kiffin top 10 $ to lose 4-5 games a year. Texas A&M is paying Jimbo $8 million a year and they missed a bowl game and Buzz Williams still hasn't won a tournament game since he arrived. Missouri hasn't had a winning season in football since 2018? Tennessee lost to our no named HC earlier this season, lol.
Yep. I don't see making him better to look at in gym shorts was his problem. If he does any lifting I'd think doing a lot of 22 oz lifting between 10 and 25 feet ftom the hoop would be most beneficial.
It's amazing that you get those responses when everything you say is true. With incentives and endorsements, our former and current basketball coaches are averaging close to 4-5 million a year. I guarantee you, that the team that we had, with a First Team SEC center and an SEC freshman shooting guard (only three teams had such a distinction of having a first-team SEC and a player who was an SEC all-freshman team, and both made the NCAA tournament). We are losing Reeves who will be recruited by EVERY MAJOR PROGRAM in America, but for SOME REASON our coaches could not figure out how to spring his talent. I seriously hope that Reeves finds the right program and coach and excels just as Appleby did. Then maybe people will start taking what you are saying seriously. Dusty May is in the Sweet Sixteen and makes 400K a year. White and Golden make TEN - TEN times what this coach makes and can't even finish over 500 with an All SEC First team Center.
