It seems like now and then a play-in team gets momentum and ends up winning one or two in the real rounds.
Purdue has an aweful record in the tournament and I never pick them to go far. I only had them winning first round and still lost that one.
I'm from Bergen County, NJ, where FDU is from. Used to run in indoor high-school track at FDU's arena. Fits maybe 5,000 people and are all bleacher seats like high-school gyms. Never in my wildest dreams did I think they'd win a NCAA tournament game vs a 1 seed. We used to call them Fairly Ridiculous University. Guess they have the last laugh now. That's why you have to show up second 1 to these games like it's the most important game of the season and bury these teams early. Especially after losing to a 15 seed last year. A terrible loss for Purdue for sure. Meanwhile FAU now has a great shot at the sweet 16 if they can win tonight.
Here's the thing. If somehow Xavier, Houston, or maybe Kst or Baylor win the championship. Duke? Anyway, some of the folks whose champion is out might theoretically still be alive. Like I said above, there appeared to be so much parity going into this tournament. It was a really hard bracket to pick. I'll post an update of records/scores when rd 1 is finished.
What a finish! I'm sure @akaGatorhoops is really excited for the Owls. The interview at the end was really telling. The player who made the game winning basket said that he loves Dusty May and then walked off in tears. Like Brent has said, this is a really together group of kids with an outstanding coach.
I am absolutely thrilled. I can’t tell you what a special group of coaches and players on this Owls team. And Nick, who hit the winner, is such a nice kid. I’m really, really happy.
