Interesting and accurate take on Desantis and the alleged “gold standard” that his worshippers love to prop up. David Pakman is one of the best YouTubers out there, admittedly leans left but is objective in his takes on both sides of the coin.

This has probably been posted, but here's a brief take on the anti-DEI legislation proposed yesterday. The source is from the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.

Florida House Subcommittee Passes Bill to Ban DEI Programs and Certain Majors at State Universities - Ed Prep Matters | AACTE Blog

On Monday, lawmakers on the Florida state House Postsecondary Education and Workforce Subcommittee passed FL HB999 (23R) — a wide ranging legislation that would introduce a number of new policies for the state university system across Florida. These policies include but are not limited to eliminating majors or minors that touch on subjects such as critical race theory and “radical” feminist or gender theories. The proposal would also prohibit universities and colleges from spending or accepting funds — from the state, feds, or elsewhere — on programs linked to diversity, equity and inclusion and critical race theory.

That article should be mandatory reading.

"Over in Texas, a Dallas woman facing a high-risk pregnancy — one twin fetus was all but certain to die before birth, but the other was healthy — dealt with doctors and nurses who refused to say the word abortion in their consultations, although one doctor told her: “You can’t do anything in Texas and I can’t tell you anything further in Texas, but you need to get out of state.” The woman, who traveled to Colorado to have the unhealthy fetus aborted because of her home state’s strict laws, told NPR about the bizarre experience of “talking in code” with doctors and nurses."

The hits just keep coming for that toad. If he’s the nominee, which I doubt, Biden is going to destroy him on the debate stage.

On the somewhat positive side, the Florida Senate just released a substitute bill for their version of this house bill that dropped the attempt to eliminate those major and minors. It only spoke of eliminating programs that violated the Stop WOKE Act (currently enjoined for being unconstitutional).

Desantis says Russian Ukraine conflict is a territorial dispute.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is dismissing Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a “territorial dispute” and says protecting the European nation is not a vital U.S. interest, firmly putting the potential presidential candidate on the side of Donald Trump and at odds with top congressional Republicans.

DeSantis delivered his foreign policy opinion in response to a questionnaire from Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host, foe of U.S. aid to Ukraine and frequent critic of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Carlson read DeSantis’s statement on his Monday night program in which he also shared responses from the former president and former vice president Mike Pence, among other potential White House candidates.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests — securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness with our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural and military power of the Chinese Communist Party — becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” DeSantis said in a statement.

Isn't it? Russia thinks Ukraine's territory belongs to Russia, and Ukraine thinks it is its own sovereign nation. It's much like the territorial dispute between Germany and Poland in 1939.

Great post. The only dispute I have is your suggestion in the last paragraph that DeSantis doesn’t know what the woke means. I’d suggest he does, yet nonetheless weaponizes it, which is worse and reveals him as a scoundrel.

It's minimal push back. Maybe they slip it past him when he's out complaining in Iowa about woke banks.

Woah, as written, that legislation would get rid of the black student unions, jewish student unions, and possibly, depending on which lawyers get a hold of it, even would do away with the black fraternities and sororities.

All of this BS plays with the Taliban-like base, however. They'd prohibit girls going to school beyond 6th grade and subjugate women if they could get away with it. They already partially do the latter with their abortion ban. Extreme? At this point, perhaps, but the Taliban mindset is undeniably there.

Christie calling out DeS new stance on Ukraine. I would vote for Christie over anyone else on the pub ticket right now

I wonder how many russian bot farms Des will get in return for his new position on Ukraine

Chris Christie compares Ron DeSantis' stance on Ukraine to appeasing Hitler before WWII (msn.com)

"[DeSantis] sounds like Neville Chamberlain talking about when Germany had designs on Czechoslovakia," Christie told Axios Tuesday.

"I don't think that's what America stands for...For anyone who's considering running for president to fundamentally misunderstand that or to be cynical enough to change their views in order to please any particular constituency is very concerning."

You can’t protest the government unless you agree with the government? Kinda takes the fun out of it.

Ron DeSantis wanted to send weapons to Ukraine when he was a congressman -- as a presidential hopeful he questions US involvement

Desantis supported sending weapons to Ukraine after Crimea invasion. Apparently he has had a change of heart.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...-position-gop-presidential-nomination/673392/

Interesting article by David Frum, asserting that Desantis may be flaming out. It is paywalled, but basically it is saying by staking out unpopular positions on many issues, such as abortion, waffling on Ukraine and current pro Putin stance, gun control, banning content at schools, etc he is making it near impossible to win the general even if he wins the nomination. At this point he hasn’t even really staked out positions on most of the important issues.

From my perspective, Desantis has been benefiting as the new shiny object. MAGA types see him as a Trump who isn’t crazy. More mainstream republicans just assume he is comparatively moderate vs Trump. Many just project what they want on to him. However as he stands out specific stances on issues, that halo starts to fall off. Also, he has yet to show any ability to thrive outside of a Fox News constructed interview.

You can make the case that he is the 2023 version of Rudy Giuliani, Scott Walker, Rick Perry and Jeb Bush.
