I live in the wrong state. As with each year, I found myself out during March Madness. Wife traveling so I figured I go somewhere with tv’s. Outback was the choice. I walk in and the televisions are showing a basketball game … fantastic. But on second look, it’s an nba replay of a decade old Lakers game. On the other two screens… the same college wrestling match. The bar tender is kindly looking for the game, but has asked me several times to repeat what type of sports event I’m looking for. March Madness. Hello?!?!? Only in Florida. here is a live look in at the efforts….
This was the mistake . Seriously, though. Between the wrong sports on TV and bartenders who don't know how to make a simple friggin' martini, I'm with you on bad bars.
During March Madness one year some time back, I got off work, hurried to my car, and turned on the local sports radio right away to catch up on some tight games going down to the wire (I'd been checking the scores online). Guess what? Nothing. No basketball updates. Just arguing about Fantasy Football draft picks. A nonsport whine time during the best sporting event of the year. That's Orlando for you.
Pretty pathetic state for college basketball, no doubt. Reminds me of living in NYC and tons of bars on a Saturday having on ice skating or an NBA game during college football season.
March Madness is huge in the Carolinas. Of course back in the 80s we had regular season ACC games in primetime which pre=empted the network shows. Yes- even the Cosby show once. (They got some complaints.)
Just remember the good ole days, where you really had to go to a bar to watch games, because CBS showed you one game, and they decided what that game was. Your team would be on, then they would pull away and never return!!
And then you have to go out with family for a ritualistic St Pat Day dinner. Three TVs with one Tournament game on and two stinkin' hockey games. Sure, it's the home team, but this time of year? Really?
But who wants to watch a Blues game when the second round hoops games are breaking hearts? OK, hockey fans. I guess I get it.
It’s either a hipster bar with really great music and they make fun of you for wanting to watch sportsball or a sports bar with awful humans…. Can we please make bars with both ?
