At the start of the season, I thought Lofton (and Bonham) were busts. Bonham has talent but is wild, a loose cannon. I think Lofton got his game under control for the most part and don’t fault him as much for the horrible season. He did throw passes that were impossible. I do think he played hard. Reeves was a total enigma this year - just horrible shot selection that often occurred at a terrible time in the game. I would not have played him much except maybe in full court press scenarios.

SEC Now said the game tonight was tied for the second worse home loss in 45 years. Doesn't get much worse than that.

The violation of “payment of child support” did not come close to a death penalty despite the previous violations under Pell.

The good news is there wasn’t as much complaining about the officiating

I was talking about the entire Pell/Hall era..I will see if I can find articles or quotes stating how close we were..however, have many of schools received as harsh a penalty? Loss of scholarships, no bowls, no TV, not allowed to recognize as Champions, or compete for one, stripped of titles...100 plus violations...we were on probation for both sports..itvwas a tough time listening to sports or reading the sports page..

We've had quite a few 18 point beatdowns at home over the past few years. Really frustrated it's happened so often the past 6-7 years.

we had the most violations at the time under Pell but not close to death penalty. All the other things were fairly standard at the time (this isnt todays NCAA infraction committee). And I believe the stripping of the SEC title was an SEC decision not an NCAA one. So I suspect you're just being over dramatic but i'd certainly be interested in reading whatever articles you found that on the death penalty as it relates to the gators

I am never over dramatic..I will try to post the Tampa times article..and I guess you didn't listen to sports talk radio..it was mentioned many times there...I didn't say we were going to get it..said we came close..regardless of whether it was SEC or NCAA..we were still stripped and lose of scholarships hurt us..over 107 violations and they talked about lack of institutional control..perhaps other "older" Gators can understand that period of time and why UF hired a former NCAA infractions committee member our compliance officer..think itvwas Jamie Mccloskey to make sure this didn't happen again..I found a time line and will try to post it later

What happened to Reeve's 3-point shot? Seems like he made only 1 of his last 30 shots.

Those violations took away a National Championship from the Gators... that SEC title was stripped by the SEC schools, but the sanctions were NCAA.

Florida's football program was slapped with a two-year probation in 1984 after being found guilty of numerous NCAA violations. Hall did not appear at Sunday's news conference, where interim university president Dr. Robert Bryan announced the resignation.

'I have accepted the resignation, effective today, of head football coach Galen Hall,' said Bryan. 'The detailed reasons for this resignation are set forth in his letter to me. In short, Coach Hall has conceded to me his personal involvement in 1987 in helping to solve the problems of a player, the details of which assistance are outlined in his letter; and the personal payment of unauthorized salary supplements to assistant coaches from 1986-89. All of these actions are in direct violation of NCAA rules; they were also clearly in breach of the responsibilities imposed upon him by his contract with the university.

'This resignation results from an investigation jointly conducted by the NCAA and the university which began a number of monthsago. Our cooperation with the NCAA made sending a preliminary notice of inquiry unnecessary. That investigation continues. It involves both the football program and the basketball program. My mandate is that it be both searching and fearless, and that as it proceeds, verified violations will be brought to my attention for immediate action.'

    These were more recent below.
    • One year of probation.
    • A $5,000 fine.
    • Reduced fall 2019 evaluations from 42 to 21.
    • Reduced football evaluation days by 12 for the 2018-19 academic year.
    • Restrictions on all recruiting telephone calls with football prospects from April 15 through May 31, 2019.
    • A reduction in the number of football official visits during the 2019-20 academic year by one and in the number of unofficial visits during the 2019-20 academic year by 14.
    • A one-year show-cause order for the head football coach. During that period, the head coach is prohibited from all off-campus recruiting activity during the fall 2020 evaluation period and a four-day off-campus recruiting ban during the fall 2021 contact period.
    • The university banned the head coach from recruiting for the first 10 days of the January 2020 contact period.
    • A 30-day off-campus recruiting ban for the head coach during the fall 2019 evaluation period.
    • The university ended the recruitment of the prospect.
    • The university will not recruit any prospects from the high school in Seattle from the 2019-20 through 2020-21 academic years.
    • A seven-day off-campus recruiting ban for the entire football coaching staff during the spring 2021 off-campus recruiting period.
    • A 30-day off-campus recruiting ban for the assistant coach in October 2019 and a three-day off-campus recruiting ban for the January 2020 contact period.
    • One-on-one rules education for both the head coach and assistant coach regarding NCAA contact and evaluation rules.

Was a national championship taken away or the opportunity to play for a national championship taken away?

I still feel that we did enough to win it all. The NY Times and another publication named the Gators as National Champs that year.
