our system only allows this if the courts and the legislature allows it. it is the hyper partisan nature of our electorate that is causing our legislature and now judiciary to permit this form of authoritarianism

ask yourself who wins when we resort to tribalism and threaten our own form of gubmnt with it? could it possibly be our enemies? control the country without ever firing a shot, and both sides are aiding them by defending their tribe

regardless of the story, use intervention (mediator or removal of most egregious only), before total dismissal, and then if total dismissal is warranted, find qualified, centrist type people to fill the boards and not hyper partisan boot licking lackies.

    that's fair right?

It seems at least one - you - already has. There's a link to the article for the "details". The OP merely implied his opinion of the move.

Does the state have any over sight in local school boards? I certainly don’t know the constitution on every state and who has over sight.

Why would the metrics in one district mean anything unless you compared them to other ones? Without knowing anything, I bet its not even the worst performing district in the state, let alone the country. I doubt there is much in the "metrics" to justify such an extraordinary action.

But they aren’t yet so unless I dig into the specifics of every board candidate I have no clue where they identify.

    Did anyone look at that?

Or is just Abbott is a dictator.

I got the sense this district has been a mess for quite some time.

Don’t you think a little more details are important, I think that’s what Tilly was noting up thread.

The voters, of course. Why is it so damn hard for radical conservatives - and they are radical - to grasp that concept. Oh, wait! They do grasp it. They just don't like it because it doesn't allow them to cram their views down everyone's throats!

I don't think any detail is important for the state government to effectively nullify local elections in such a sweeping and arbitrary manner, and its pretty rich justification coming from people who would like to kill the DOE and lost their shit over Common Core that they are worried about state determined standards not being met to their satisfaction. Ultimately you either believe in home rule or you dont, its pretty obvious that Republicans in states with large urban populations dont believe in home rule for cities, whether it be gun control, setting minimum wages or labor regulations, police funding/reform, education, gay rights, you name it. This is part of a larger pattern of behavior that is safe to call authoritarian. If this is the way its going to be in this country, these type of tactics will be used the other way too (whether its in Texas if it were to flip or blue states in rural jurisdictions, its only a matter of time, IMO.

Depends on what the law is and what the elected people did wrong. Is the law a placeholder until an election can be held?

I didnt chose a side yet. Thats what people cant handle lol. Our society lacks the ability to take a moment and think.

We have to have an opinion and a side based on a couple paragraphs typed by a total stranger.

    Its insane really

Great. I generally dont need a moment to think when the state nullifies the elections in one of the largest school districts in the nation. That's pretty extraordinary, and would require some extraordinary circumstances to justify. If those details are unclear or need further clarification after the fact, that seems like a bad sign, because that probably would mean they aren't particularly extraordinary. Like if the media had reported a massive child abuse ring, and then this happened I'd be like: that seems like a pretty harsh reaction, but that would be an extraordinary failing of a school district where such action may be warranted if elected officials covered it up or something.

    area schools math reading total
    austin 21 62 50 112
    corpus christy 10 69 44 113
    ector 5 36 56 92
    dallas 39 66 54 120
    fort worth 27 46 41 87
    goose creek 6 56 55 111
    houston 50 52 51 103
    humble 6 39 53 92
    lubbock 7 31 36 67
    phas-san juan-alamo 8 54 34 86
    round rock 7 40 65 105
    spring branch 6 31 45 76

these are the districts I saw with more than 5 high schools. not many districts with more than 1 or 2 high schools Houston is neither the best or anywhere near the worst when you add reading and writing scores together

ft worth and lubbock, both strong pub areas, are much worse school systems based on US News & World Report

Yes. The details tell us both sides. Who os right? No idea. The details tell is that Abbot thinks the system has failed greatly.

My point is, had it? I dont know from the article

So you're saying we'll have to wait a bit longer for your usual "both sides" deflection?

regardless of the law or the situation, do you think it is appropriate to replace people with unqualified highly partisan people to reward your political supporters?
