I believe it was Tim Tebow with Broncos in 2011, if looking at pure QB. Long time ago. However, trick question answer would be Jordan Reed. Played TE at end of college career and in NFL. Drafted from UF and last start as a TE was in 2020 with 49ers prior to retirement. Trey Burton also played/started after 2011 at non-QB position. Also out of football after 2020 with Colts.
Worth noting that Rex played more recently than Tebow did but last started in 2011 (versus 2012 for Tim). Rex was also offered a shot to re-join an NFL team in 2014, but declined.
Bruce Arians talking to Rich Eisen about Trask , "I think we are in good hands with Kyle Trask" - Trask talk starts about 3:38.
Knowing Kyle, he didn't just sit patiently while Brady was in the spotlight. Following a legend is a good thing for someone like Kyle. I have no doubt that he watched and learned and worked and did everything to get ready for any opportunity he might receive. I don't know if Kyle will have what it takes to thrive in the NFL, especially with the current emphasis on running QBs. But, I do know one thing. He will be as ready as humanly possible to take his shot.
Bucs are looking to acquire either Baker Mayfield or Jacoby Brissett. If Trask starts it won't be at the beginning of the season
Trask is the only QB the Bucs have on the roster currently. Competition for the starting spot can only help Trask.
This will be Kyle's 3rd year in the league, if it doesn't happen now it's not going to happen. Still wish he had been drafted by someone else.
Bucs will at least need a second QB for backup reasons. Whether or not he starts depends on who they pick up. So, I think worst case, Kyle will be the on-sideline backup and get some reps. Best case, he could become the starter. It's also possible an injury could land him on the field. Either way, it will be a promotion for him from his previous third-string status. Can't think of anyone I'd root for more than Kyle.
Best scenario for him. Let Baker start and be Baker. After he loses his expected 5 or 6 games. Trask will have no pressure as the starter for the rest of the year.
Being behind Baker isn’t exactly buried. Baker should be a backup at this point unless a teams goal is to win 8-10 games and lose their first playoff game if they make it.
Just hope when he plays he goes off for the Bucs like he did for us against KY and every subsequent game. He was amazing.
