I think he is a good coach when it comes to player development , I am not as please with him as a talent evaluator (Jamar Chase) and recruiter (under Mullen he got lazy) . but with all the talent evaluators we have on staff now maybe that won't matter .
In which way? His transfers and draft picks have been great. His top receivers out of hs leave something to be desired. Whose fault is that is my question.
How do we know BG got “lazy” under Mullen? Mullen was clearly lazy in recruiting. Hard to overcome the overall demeanor/likability of the Head Coach when selling the commitment to a recruit. Just my opinion
I’m not sure likability Is the right word although I agree with you. Saban seems like a real dick but business is business.
The lack of speed at WR spot was very evident this last year we had a lot of Tall possession WR on the roster (reportedly , that was his preference) I really don't know how much to attribute that to him or Mullen .
Nah. Look up some vids of Saban with his players. He’s genuinely personable with those guys. Now, to the media, etc. he’s definitely a bit gruff.
Reading your account of the Tebow portion brought it all back! Didn’t know the story about OU game. Thank you for sharing.
Mullen benefitted from Mac’s efforts to upgrade the position which he did well over time. Mullen left the position far worse than he found it and his reliance upon sleepers at the position proved to be a total dud. Gonzalez shares in the responsibility for that as well as earning credit for his many contributions over the years.
That rb that was just there a couple years ago said they battled it out his entire career. The kid left the team for a couple weeks. I think he’s probably hard to take but his work ethic and system is respected as he is.
Billy G did well in the portal. Van Jeff, Grimes and Shorter from Ole Miss, Ohio State and Penn State respectively were good hauls. Copeland may have stayed at UF rather than go to MD I’d Billy G remained. That would have helped our O last year.
It’s kinda up in the air. He’s had some mixed results but you do have to consider the circumstances. I’ll wait and see. He should have a qb in a couple years that receivers want to play with.
He may have tried to recruit the first 3 to LSU, but he wasn't here to recruit them. I also doubt he had much to do with Dak.
