Bama lost 2/3 to Columbia last weekend but payed a double header on Saturday, so no pitching on Sunday. However, their pitchers faced 47, 39 and 54 batters in those three games. They gave up 10, 2 and 15 runs in those games. They play South Alabama tonight. Columbia is 4-6, having lost 3/3 to Virginia, 2/4 to NC Wilmington and 1/3 to Bama.

South Alabama is a good program. That's no slouch. Bama is better this year as they are healthier. It's never easy to sweep a DH in sec, however Bama is a good team to kick off conference play with at this time.

Its possible but there might not be a Saturday, still uncertain. If we don't get Ursitti then yes I hope Nesbitt pitches tonight. I think Nesbitt tonight matters more on how the game is going. less likely if we get up big early. Sully will more likely want to win 2-3 games this weekend and will put his best towards that before worrying about a loss to N Florida.

Never mind I see Nesbitt has been named the starter. Good call on your part.

Ah but Bama is not playing a mid week game this week according to Gals weekly games update. Must be nice right before you travel to play Florida.

Saturday weather game update. Sully was asked at the post game presser and he said the SEC is still monitoring the chance of moving the Saturday game to playing a DH on Friday. The later the day on Saturday it goes the better the weather gets but the last day of the series, regardless if its Saturday or Sunday, the travel rules still apply. They are waiting to get the approval from the SEC if Friday will be a DH or they try for Saturday.

it is the ……….catchers with 4 LOL

Thoughts on the North Florida win...
    1. Our pitching looks improved but more importantly seems to be gaining confidence. In 5 games we have only given up 6 runs. Competition aside, we are not giving up as many free bases and we are making better pitches with runners on base.
    2. I was real happy and even shocked how well Jameson pitched tonight. He was good for us last year so his start this year was a problem. Hopefully this is a turn for the better heading into SEC play.
    3. Pitching wise the best thing about tonight, 3 innings were cover by Nesbitt and Neely, and 6 innings were covered by Jameson and Ficarrotta. Meaning, our better arms covered less innings than the two pitchers with higher ERAs going into the week. Yes Nesbitt threw 43 pitches but Sully got him out. Fic at one time had an ERA in the 7-8 range and now he is back down to 4.30. This should help for our Bama prep.
    4. Evans error was troubling and makes you wonder why Sully isn't trying other options. Perhaps more competition for RF will inspire better focus.
    5. With Langford out I keep wondering why Sully doesn't try Evans in LF and Prevask in RF. I guess he still hopes that Fabian will hit better like he said he did in preseason practices. Fabian does seem to have a good read on base stealing though.
    6. Very happy to see Lastres have a good game behind the plate. The triple was one thing but he took care of plenty pitches in the dirt and even threw out the steal attempt.
    7. I hope Langford gets back soon. I also hope not having him for Bama is not the one missing piece that changes the outcome of the series. Both teams have very, and I mean very, close stats in both hitting and pitching. Sure partly that's partly because of competition faced but Bama's got really good hitters and even better pitchers.
    8. I better get off of here now before I start to get blabby.:p

Here's a nugget about Alabama that's good to know...
Their best pitcher, Luke Holman 1.29 ERA in 4 starts with 21 innings pitched, is their midweek starter and just pitched 7 innings Tuesday night, throwing 87 pitches, against S. Alabama. So very doubtful we see him anytime soon, except for a very short situation if needed late in the series.

I’m a casual baseball fan compared to most of the posters on here but, I do follow most of our games on my phone and watch when it is aired live.
I am glad we have come from behind to win a couple of games even though the deficits we overcame weren’t big, it’s still good for the teams psyche.
Also, I’m encouraged that our pitching, particularly middle inning relief, is starting to come around just in time for conference play. Success on the playing field depends a lot on confidence.

@Matherly87 — I’ll have to say this with regards to your “Thoughts on the North Florida win”

#4 and #8 were the true pressure points of your post. The defense (or lack of it) in RF is baffling, especially to not look at other options.

And #8, well it speaks volumes for itself.;)

Solid analysis as usual. I like the detail. While Jameson certainly looked better than he has since his appearance opening weekend, I'm still not sold. But glad he had a decent outing. Nic Fic was the star on the mound for me last night. It was good to see Evans get 2 hits tonight, one of them a clutch 2-out 2 RBI single, but his nonchalance in RF sometimes is troubling. Who did Prevesk piss off? Lastres' 2-out triple was huge and I'm glad for him. However, I'm not impressed with the way he often stabs at balls behind the plate instead of framing them to try to get borderline calls. I think he costs his pitcher several strikes that Riopelle or even Heyman might have gotten. Finally, as strong and deep as this Gator lineup is, not having Langford is a major blow heading into SEC play. He's a quality defender, but more importantly a key power/clutch hitter in the batting order. As much as Sully tries to cover for his absence, there's a still a void. To win the SEC, which is the goal, we need him back ASAP.

Yes, I agree with number 4. That is the third or fourth routine fly ball that Evans has dropped this season. Would hate to have it cause us a couple runs in an SEC contest.

Also glad to see Lastres get a big hit. Would hate to see him get frustrated sitting on the bench and consider transferring. We need his big bat more next year when BT is gone and there will be more options at catcher, first base and DH.

Just for fun, what say you.....
I'm wondering who will have the best weekend at the plate for the Gators since Langford is most likely out for the series. I get some don't like to make predictions or narrow in on one player but I'm interested to hear each of your perspectives on who stands a better chance to excel with some reasoning.

I'll throw my hat in, of course. Without Wyatt, most would probably say either Cags or Kurland. But not me. I'm going with Rivera because of OB%, runs, RBIs, and clutch hitting. I would not be surprised if Bama ends up intentionally walking Cags at key points in the games and thereby taking the bat out of his hands. Plus I can't see Bama throwing Jac many first pitch fastballs for him to deposit over the right field wall. Kurland will see his first live SEC pitching that's not our own. Rivera has the most experience and the patience to wait for his opportunity. And if you didn't know Rivera is second on the team in HRs.
