Wish we had a handful of players that could forget about rushing and still have 654 yards and 9 TD's rushing.
Yeah just think what could have been if he’d run the ball in the 2nd half of the season like he did the first few games
I don't think that is accurate at all. He had 96 yards on 15 rushing attempts in the third to last game of the season. He had 10 attempts in the last game.
Maybe the best way to evaluate him is to see how the team looked in the one game he missed. Tell me how the supporting cast looked without him.
Seriously? Context matters. One meaningless bowl game with several opt-outs and a backup QB seeing his first action of the season? A bit of a small sample size with radically different circumstances, don't you think? I'm not "evaluating" anything other than AR's accuracy, or lack thereof. If you don't think he missed a ton of throws last year, you need to get your eyes checked.
If he was so bad it shouldn't have mattered. Lots of those other opt outs missed other games and we still didn’t have to kick a meaningless field goal to save the streak in those games.
Here, let me help you out..... ^ Do you think those numbers are acceptable for a quarterback of the Florida Gators? Knowing how talented AR is, are you happy with that performance? ^ Did you think this is an unreasonable take?
The level of rationalization for an average QB producing his historical level of achievement wrt W&L os astounding. Posters have blamed everyone and everything in defense of AR. He is athletically gifted and his gifts to date haven’t elevated the play of those round him at any level he has played. He has produced .500 results every year as a starter. Congratulations to to him for achieving his goal of making it to the league. Thankfully, we are no longer on the hook financially for his modest production of wins. The next team he lands on is going to relearn the reality of potential vs production and overpay for the lesson.
This is of course a lie. AR was empirically the best rusher we’ve had in recent memory. His last 4 games he had 36 runs for 240 yards and a 6.6 average.
What numbers don’t matter? AR was empirically around the 30th best QB last year. Mertz 80. Mertz has multiple years starting with similar results. The key difference between them is rushing. What numbers should we be looking at if we don’t care about total production?
AR was good, not great last year. The reason why our team stunk was defense. That seems pretty obvious. Our O wasn’t championship level but infinitely superior to our D
His passing was average his rushing was elite. It’s a good not great performance. Yes I would love great and we can’t win titles with the 30th best QB. The point is you are cherry picking some stats and ignoring others. Look at the totality of his production. Would it be fair to evaluate Trask based on his rushing stats?
Not gonna discuss defensive performance in this thread I concur our QB play wasnt championship level. This isnt a surprise as outlined above glad you agree
Actually getting this team to 6-6 was amazing. Hopefully Napier will get the talent level back to what we were used to, I don't blame him and always said he did a great job salvaging any recruiting class last year. Mullen left an empty cupboard and you can see from the mock drafts that AR and a transfer one year lineman were the bright spots on this team.
So there is a huge chasm seperating our perspectives. I choose the oline and running game as bright spots. Yes coach began cleaning up the mess Dan left behind. AR had an average year and would have been pulled for several series with his performance from several games under SOS. its not his fault, currently his QB aptitude doesnt live up to athletic abilities
Here, let me help you out... We came close to leading the nation in dropped passes and there were also a lot of times he was forced to throw the ball away because of missed blocks or offensive lineman just being beat. I guess he could have increased his completion rate by taking more sacks. Put Bryce Young on this team and his numbers would have dropped, mostly because he would have missed 5 or 6 games with injuries behind this OL.
Like I said, there are too many variables. Different teams, different offenses, different coaches, different situations. You can't plug and play numbers like that. It would be like saying we would have had 1,000 more rush yards if we had Bijan Robinson instead of Trevor Etienne. If Mertz plays well, the stats will take care of themselves. He doesn't need to have X amount of this or Y amount of that to meet whatever threshold you think is required for us to be successful. Just throw an accurate ball and execute the offense. If the passing game improves and Johnson/Etienne have a good year, all of the "lost production" from AR will be replaced one way or another. I'm not cherry picking anything, because I was never talking about the totality of AR's production. I said he missed a lot of throws, which is an accurate statement. I said it wasn't the system's fault or the supporting cast's fault, which is an accurate statement as well.
