Before anyone thinks this is one fringe wacko, 21 other rednecks are co-sponsoring this bill. So far, Nancy Mace (R - SC) continues to be the sole Republican lawmaker demonstrating any common sense at all on this issue and who continues to speak on the floor of the United States House of Representatives by bringing attention to the S Carolina Bill and again advocating that this issue be addressed by the United States Congress. Rep Mace aside, at some point, anyone with a brain has to recognize that there is little to no difference now between the mainstream Republican Party and the Taliban. South Carolina Lawmakers Propose Death Penalty for Abortions Seekers – Rolling Stone
It’s stupid But I didn’t realize 21 SC lawmakers make up the mainstream Pub party and that equates them with the Taliban
Thats 1/4 of the SC house republicans. Some of you who continue to make excuses for these nutjobs need to come to the realization that there really are no limits to how far the right wing of the party will go. I mean killing women who have abortions? That’s pretty taliban like. There was a time decades ago maybe 1/4 of republicans were anti abortion. Now 1/4 want to kill women.
74% of young women 18-29 think abortion should be legal. In order to achieve their utopia, republicans will have to kill these 74% of women. The problem for Republicans is new women will continue to be born, and most likely their policies won’t be any more popular with young women in the future. So the kill rates will just have to go up!
The remaining gop caucus will vote it down in favor of keeping the women alive to serve as handmaids.
The hardcore right GOP might kill your wife legally. The hardcore left Dems want everyone to have healthcare. The difference couldn't be more stark.
That article shows what is so infuriating about news reporting these days. So many sources lie in their headlines in order to get clicks. That South Carolina bill says nothing about the death penalty. What’s also sad is it seems people have reacted in this thread merely on the title of the article and the title of the thread. How many bothered to look at the language of the bill before commenting. You can’t even say that it indirectly calls for the death penalty by making destroying the fetus murder. Even with murders of post-born people very few get the death penalty. Nationwide only 2% of known murderers receive the death penalty.
Are you denying that zygote's getting “equal protection under the homicide laws of the state” means that the death penalty is on the table? The law doesn't have to actually say the words "death penalty" when the alternative wording quoted above means the same thing ...
In before the bullshit line about "well not EVERY republican feel that way" gets tossed out. Enough of them do to make it a problem. Instead of bashing those who dare to call it out, how about the gop does a little house cleaning of its own?
Look at the wording of the title: Are you asserting that the title is accurate, that the purpose of the bill is to give women the death penalty for abortions? That title is a lot different than “on the table.” And when you say “on the table,” on the table for who? The woman or the doctor? That’s not even clear. The reality is very few people get the death penalty for murder, so to say that the bill is proposing the death penalty for abortions is grossly inaccurate at best.
Death penalty aside, charging a woman with murder who has had an abortion is batshit crazy all on its own.
It doesn’t really matter what percentage of women would be put to death, if this law passed, it would be entirely true to say “abortion is punishable by death”… right? Do you think life in prison is a better option?
The modern GOP is to blame for putting themselves in a position to have to rely on what were previously fringe groups and positions.
My point was the inaccuracy in the title of both the article and this thread. A normal person would look at that headline and think the South Carolina bill would call for executing every woman who has an abortion. That is the lie. This is the problem with news reporting these days.
Your reading disability aside pay attention to the part that’s in bold: The “South Carolina Prenatal Equal Protection Act of 2023” would amend the state’s code of laws, redefining “person” to include a fertilized egg at the point of conception, affording that zygote “equal protection under the homicide laws of the state” — up to and including the ultimate punishment: death.”
Here is some reality: The Trump appointed Supreme Court justices ARE LIARS. Prior to them accepting the position they all indicated they would not take away Women's constitutional right to abortion, a law that was 50 years old. They are LIARS. Women can and do DIE in some health related cases unless an abortion is allowed or implemented. How does the Christian faith deal with that? Gods will?? Now the Christo-nazis want to ban any and all abortions for blue states that CLEARLY support a womans right to choose. Force feeding your religon is what I call it.
I don’t see it that way, and the title is accurate… the bill does propose the death penalty as the max punishment for abortion… I think everyone knows that the actual punishment is determined by a court, and the max punishment is often not given.
