One of the things I love about this game is that it rarely goes exactly like you expect it to. Did you know..... That a waft is a pennant or a flag used to signal or show wind direction. So next time you are wafting you could be signaling when you are blowing wind.
Friday night Siena showed good patience waiting on pitches and getting to plenty of 3-2 counts and our pitchers seemed ready to oblige. Sproat and Fisher did a poor job attacking their hitters and had some control issues. Waldrep will need to adjust and not try to pick the corners early unless they come out swinging. I was surprised Sully went to Fisher right after Sproat was done. Both Fisher and Sproat threw a bunch of pitches very quickly so I'm wondering if we adjust on Saturday to prevent the high pitch counts.
I’ve watched the game played last night throughout all of my time in baseball—an obviously better team playing down to their competition’s level rather than at their own level. It always seems to produce sloppily played baseball. We need to hit the field ready to play hammer down Gator Baseball this afternoon. Don’t leave’em wondering—make’em know where they’re at!
This morning I was telling Dad about the game and told him the story about the Siena pitcher getting ejected from the bullpen. He said, "Well that was one Siena that got burnt." Pretty snappy for a 94-year-old!
Anyone ever determine what was said? I also wondered how they knew who was hollerin’. He’d been going on and on out there for a while. Sounded like our shrieker at the basketball games.
Sully said he had a pitch count of 75 planned for Sproat because of the short weekend, Alabama starts on Thursday. It didn't work out last night but I still expect Sully to pull Waldrep out early if we get a decent lead depending on his pitch count.
My thought too.....all 3 starters will be on pitch counts this weekend. And we know Waldrep is a high K guy and that usually means higher pitch counts. I'll be happy with 5 today, 6 if he is cruising
Thus far Sproat has not looked the Friday night guy that he looked in his last six starts last year. I wonder if Sully would consider moving Waldrep up to the Friday slot at some point in the next month or would that risk shaking Sproat's confidence. What does the panel think? Plus, we appear far from figuring out our bullpen depth chart with the exception of Neely and possibly Fisher. Fisher has not been all that sharp in his last two appearances since his lights out performance vs Canes last Friday... Remember it was Rivera's leaping grab of Cyr's searing line drive and DP that got Fisher out of the 8th inning last Sunday and then the run rule outburst saved the day.
Gator head coach Kevin O’Sullivan credited Siena for the energy they brought after a 20-hour bus ride followed by the long rain delay." Got off the bus and started the game...................... can you imagine? I once made a road trip from Buffalo to Orlando in about that time, no motel stop.
I used to make that trip every year (Albany area to Jax) when my kids were out on spring break. We would leave right after work that Friday and drive straight thru, usually getting there about noon on Saturday. With my wife an I alternating driving. Once I got into my 40s I just couldn’t do it anymore. I would spend the first few days of vacation just wiped out and trying to recover. Good times.
Been at the park since 2, but haven’t found anyone with info on what the ejected pitcher was yelling about. Even the media guys claim they don’t know. Can anyone contact Schiekofer? I think he was in LF when it went down.
