Well we’ve now added another pitcher to those we might be able to count ( might) on in Nesbitt. To me it was in our top 1-2 outings of the year and all he needed was a chance.

Had lots of faith in Nesbitt.

next guy I’d like to get a chance would be Ursitti. I’d try him over Purnell and Jameson. Not as much faith as Nesbitt but needs opportunities.

Correcting another wrong. I thought after tonight's game two other pitchers would end up above a 5.50 ERA. Actually it went the opposite direction. Nesbitt strengthened his ZERO POINT ZERO ERA and look who joined the club. Phillip Abner is back, now with a 3.18 ERA. All we need now is some consistency and Sully might be able to depend on a few guys when needed.

Sully said on the postgame that Neely is getting help from the trainers and nutritionists so he can get over the flu, put some weight back on, and get his strength back. He mentioned maybe he can come back for Friday, but he caught himself and wanted to change it to Saturday depending on what they say. So obviously I think Fisher will get an inning on Friday instead of Neely.

If we get up big early in these games this weekend, I wonder if Sully will take out the starter after only 5 or 6 innings no matter how good they are doing for two reasons. One is not to over extend their arm when its not needed and help save some for conference play. Two is so he gets some bullpen time in for others before the run rule hits. I don't think it does any good in the big picture for a guy to say hey I pitched a complete 7 inning game against Siena. Sully's not into stat padding and he needs a few more guys to prove they are ready coming out of the bullpen.

    Two other interesting tidbits:
Rivera hit two balls last night projected at 429 and 422. Wind knocked both back ( wind was that strong).

Nesbitt- said something about hopefully earning their trust back. It’s important to remember practice is practice. If Nesbitt didn’t look good in scrimmages we have to remember he’s pitching to quite possibly the best hitting line up in college in his own teammates.

His swing has always looked a little “loose” and would be streaky in the past but he is not chasing bad pitches like he use to so I am holding out hope it continues. Rooting for the Highlands County boy!
Then another south central Florida boy Nesbitt threw a gem yesterday!

Siena is terrible, so an opportunity for more stat building. They're 2-10, having lost 3 games to UCF, 4 to Jacksonville and 2 to Stetson before taking 2 out of 3 from Miami of Ohio.

2-1 loss to UCf and a 2-1 loss to Jax so they might have a couple of arms that are pretty good. @74nole is right just take a look at Seton Hall last year - they were getting drubbed by everyone over the first 10 games - came in here and scored more runs in that series than they had scored in the previous 10 games combined and beat us in one of the games.
If we "play up to our standards" shouldn't be a problem, especially with the way this team swings the bat, but you never know.

Made me wonder if Tuesday was one of those coach asked player who says I can do it coach, I'm ready, and then when he plays the coach realizes nothing is better. So then they finally get some help coming his way.

Yes sir!! Josh has some SW Fla ties w Burn and Nesbitt another SW Fla kid. He and Palmquist just about 20 minutes apart if that. Now that’s a nice high school battle.

Starting to bounce around this batting order since Evans is lagging a little. Other than putting Prevask out in RF and giving us another LHH....
    Kurland-R
    Langford-R
    Caglianone-L
    Rivera-R
    Riopelle-L
    (DH)Heyman or Shelnut-R
    Robertson-L
    Evans-R
    Halter-L

I saw Josh, I think, his Junior year in Avon Park before he went to IMG. Nesbitt, in LaBelle, overmatched everyone. Reminded me when I coached against Tom Gordon and Gabe White. Started the games at twilight…..it was not a fair fight lol

Not sure if we see him today or not but Siena's best starting pitcher is a RHP named Marynczak. He's 6-8 and 254 lbs. Last year he pitched a 7 inning no hitter and still had a 6.58 ERA.

Excited for that guy I have a blind spot for Nesbitt. Can’t wait to see that Tuesday or Wednesday start. We all know we have to develop a true bullpen that can get outs. I would also say after that a number four starter is another big piece to helping us getting where we need to go. Come tourney time gotta have a 4th. Unless Coppola can come in and show he’s a stopper gotta keep Neely in that role so he’s not your 4 guy. Coppola could be that guy but if Nesbitt can get anywhere near duplicating his last outing and showing he could be our 4 we could have Coppola as a pen guy which could make this team scary good.

Yeah, it was really cool to see Josh when he was still in Avon and you are correct about Nesbitt… Can’t even imagine Flash Gordon in high school I know he is a legend in that area

It's strange to think of many positives after the weird 3-2 win over Siena but here goes....
    1. Sproat improved to a 3.92 ERA. That's the first time this year he has been under 4.
    2. Neely got his ERA down to 5.23 in one inning with no runs.
    3. Ficarrotta's ERA dropped from 7.88 going into the Miami weekend down to 5.40 after two good outings against FAU and Siena in 3.2 innings with no runs.
    4. Shelnut (2-4, HR) and Heyman (2-2) both had a good game at the plate. Shelnut is trying to lock in the 3B spot. Heyman (.406 avg) might be our best DH when Cags is on first.

    Now some concerns....
    1. Sproat has now hit 6 batters, 2 tonight. That might lead the SEC. He has yet to show how well he has pitched before the season.
    2. Evans keeps sliding down his average. Sully needs to break up the Riopelle/Evans combo by dropping Evans in the order. These two are our strikeout leaders with 18 and 19 and hurt our run production. Last thing we need with runners in position is SOs, possibly back to back. Shelnut or Heyman would be better after Riopelle for now.
    3. Errors continue to pop up and could have really impacted the game tonight. Last year by this time we had 6 errors. This year we've had 14.
    4. We used some of our best pitchers tonight to get the win. Tomorrow and Sunday will need the offense to pull us thru.

Saturday with Waldrep starting I hope we see Ursitti, Abner, and Slater. Neely could be ready if needed but hopefully we are good without him. Purnell probably needs a few outs this weekend to see where he is at so if we get a big lead then Sully might bring him in.
