Anthony Richardson should be the #1 pick in the NFL draft...

There’s 22 positions that it also applies to. You’re right though, we didn’t have many options. There also weren’t many that could coast to protect their nfl stock either. Most were playing for a shot at Sundays.

 

Actually one of the receivers in those drills was a guy CJ played with all year. AR didn't have any of his receivers out there....hmmm...maybe that was best for everyone throwing.

The latest NFL rumors have Florida's Anthony Richardson soaring to the top of the draft board.

There are NFL rumors, and then there's talk of Anthony Richardson being the first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Absolute shenanigans, I tell you. But you know what? I'm kind of down for it. Richardson has the highest ceiling of any quarterback in the draft, but he has abysmal bust potential. Oh, he is definitely going top 10 now, especially after going Freakazoid! at the NFL combine, but him going first? Ridiculous! Then again, people are hearing things about him in the wake of the NFL combine.

Apparently, Rich Eisen of The NFL Network says he heard rumors about the former Florida quarterback going No. 1 overall.

Dov Kleiman of Bro Bible echoed similar sentiments of Richardson being some variation of Josh Allen, Justin Fields and Cam Newton coming out. Those are three incredible comps, but only Fields felt fail-proof leaving his Power Five institution. Then again, he went 11th, Allen went seventh and Newton went first, so what do we really know anyway? Oh, I so wish Al Davis was alive for this…

If someone traded up for Richardson for the No. 1 overall pick, hell is freezing over and we will die!

 

I'm not speaking on AR specifically but all this talk about not playing meaningless games to protect draft status makes me ask what is the value of a national championship if it costs someone a 1st round draft pick? Is that national championship ring we see up for sale on eBay from time to time worth more than protecting draft status? Why did Tua or Percy even play in national championship games while nursing leg injuries? If either suffered a career ending injury in a win would it have been worth it any more to them than someone who sat out and secured a fat contract? It's a slippery slope when you start qualifying "meaningful games" vs "unimportant games." It's the same reason coaches coach and players play to the end of every game. Down 21 with less than a quarter to play? Why play anyone of value? Out of the playoff race college or pro? Why play the rest of the season?

"Importance" always had a different meaning in sports. Nothing in sports is "important" in the real world sense. Dollars I guess but qualifying value of games is just a bizzare concept to me.

 

Down 21 with less than a quarter to play? At least half the people on here would be screaming for Billy to put in the backup.

Loyalty to School? nahhhh - College is just a stepping stone to an NFL career

I strongly believe that the future will bring an ever increasing bond by players to the pro's and much less of a bond to a college, which is just a required stepping stone for a couple of years to a paycheck.

 

Cam did well for a very short time and his body was wrecked. Lamar Jackson has been on and off the field half the time the last two years. If I’m taking a high pick, I’m hoping for 10+ years and it would be nice if the guy made into his mid thirties. Giving Lamar Jackson a guaranteed half a billion seems dumb to me considering the chances of his best years already being behind him. I don’t want the next Lamar Jackson, I want the next Mahomes or Brady. Wheels are nice but if they can’t 100% make their living from the pocket, they will more than likely be out of the league around 30 years old. Aaron Rodgers could run when he was young but he minimized using his legs to gain two decades in the league. The qb I’m willing to spend a top pick on is not going to be taking a lot of unnecessary hits. If he had Trask and AR rolled into one, he would be the unanimous number one pick.

But was he part of the throwing drills with AR? Jaxon Smith-Njigba is a projected first round pick from Ohio State and he was one of the receivers in C.J. Stroud's drill (AR's also)...I'm just saying.

Wow. This makes so much more sense than he "crushed" the interviews- unless it was from a personal standpoint.
He will still go top 10 though. Someone is dumb enough to take him. (Probably the Panthers.)

There are plenty of examples out there that could lead a person to believe he wasn’t giving it his all last season. I’m not saying he did or didn’t because we don’t know what he was being directed to do by his coaches. But it’s laughable to challenge someone on ‘what makes them think’ that when we all watched him refuse to trot for the easy 1st down and instead chunked a bad pass downfield.

 

Stroud played Georgia’s defense fairly well right? That means more to me than drills. AR was excellent at the combine but I never saw him look like Stroud in a game. AR is more physically gifted bit Stroud is by far the better qb at this point. Drafting on potential is crazy to me.

 

Yep. Causes me to think back to all the QBs we recruited who were physically-gifted but considered “raw”. I can’t recall a one of them who ever turned into anything great

I swear there are posters on message boards who can drum up better writing than these guys. Isn't fansided basically a platform for glorified internet posters to share to?

 

Does raw actually mean they can’t do it? There certainly aren’t many that make the jump, you can usually tell right away.

 

The dynamics have changed. It used to be that the NFL wanted to see what you did in college. Now the NFL is effectively scouting before NSD even finishes. I don't think it mattered all that much how well or poorly AR played this year, barring a total collapse.

It's not good for college football. I doubt he'll be the last big recruit that is earmarked by the NFL and starts getting hints about where they'll go, very early in their college career. CFB is becoming an expo. I wish the NFL had a real D-league. Then college would be full of kids hoping to prove themselves.
