By: Gentry Hawk -- March 5, 2023 Football is officially back and underway for the Gators after wrapping up the first day of spring practice Saturday afternoon in Year 2 of the Billy Napier era. Despite Florida’s Orange and Blue Game being nearly a month away with staff hires yet to be announced, Coach Napier and the new-look Gators seem to be in a good place heading into the 2023 spring season. When these guys are seniors we'll probably have a pretty good team. ... “I think from a leadership standpoint, the best thing you can give as far as leadership is concerned is your example,” Hocke said. “So I think if you want to talk about Year 2 guys, I think of a guy like Trevor Etienne. I think of a guy like Shemar James. I think of a guy like Devin Moore. I think of a guy like Miguel Mitchell. Those four guys are as good of an example, like inside the building, outside the building. So when you have all these new guys come in, they’re watching that example done at a high level and it makes a lot of good.”
Gotta figure this year will be one of transition all over the field. How soon will young talents begin to earn heavy snaps? How many early mistakes? On the other hand, the bar was set pretty low last year with a roster not completely buying in, significant talent gaps and plenty of winnable losses littering the schedule. 2024 will be even better.
Is this young man a legacy Jackson? Kahleil Jackson made a spectacular catch like this in a game last year. Hope he gets on the field this coming season.
Thanks, Tommy. I read an article that intimated that he may get a full scholarship this coming season. And I think he's worthy. The new receiver's coach is far better than the last receiver's coach ever thought he was... addition through subtraction... even in coaching. The last receivers coach was a clown, IMHO. Shhhh... don't tell anyone I said so.
You think so? KC has recruited/produced plenty of NFL talent. Let’s hope BG can recruit similar with CBN at the helm.
Well…we had like 5 schollys left so there must’ve not been someone in the portal that the coaches thought they could get as an upgrade.
Jackson had 2 catches. But what does that have to do with KC? KC can be a good coach who wanted the NFL. I haven’t heard anything about him being a clown but maybe. BG can be a good coach who wants to be here. And Jackson can be deserving of a scholarship.
Willie Jackson of early 1970s era. With Leonard George first black UF players. WJ played mostly WR but at times due to his size (about 6-2 210) played RB. His son, Willie Jackson Jr, was a stud WR for Steve Spurrier in 1990s. He, as I recall, came just after Ernie Mills, T Barber, K Kirkpatrick crowd. He had great hands. Then there is Terry Jackson, one of the 3 headed monster RB group in 1996. Fred Taylor, Eli Williams and T Jack who broke a long run (50? yards) for a TD in the NC game vs fsux....52-20 ! So K Jackson is the son of somebody up there and maybe the grandson of Willie Jackson the First !
I see, I thought Tommy was talking about KJ not KC... Oops, sorry about the misunderstanding. Sorry guys, Tommy.
