The best Gator softball player in history is Lauren Haeger. She nearly single handedly won the 2015 NC.
First rpi is out,UF at 19. Weak schedule and bad road trip not helping, but lots of space to make it up. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/softball/d1/ncaa-womens-softball-rpi
You are correct. See post #1454 on the previous page where I gave all of Haeger's stats to back it up.
Agree. We have to beat somebody with a pulse to get more recognition. All those gaudy offensive numbers didn't play well vs. UCLA & Oregon. UCF tomorrow night will be a step up and then 2 games over the weekend against Louisiana will be s decent test. But our pre-conference schedule has been very week, especially compared to other ranked teams, most of whom have all play a bunch of games against each other.
I know there have been some complaints (not directed at you. You are just stating facts)about our schedule this year, but with Lexie out, better teams may have translated into more early losses. As many have said, this team can go as far as pitching takes them, and Hightower is a fine #2. The improving schedule may be the right track this year.
Sorry to cause you to get an Off-Topic. I thought if you answered someone's question, that would be on topic. Sometimes I check on who does that, and most of the time I have never heard of them.
Who would make up your All-Time Gator Softball Team? Here's mine to get it started: DH/Pitcher/1B - Lauren Haeger Pitchers - Stacey Nelson & Kelly Barnhill Catcher - Aubree Munro First Baseman - Amanda Lorenz Second Baseman - Aja Paculba Shortstop - Kelsey Stewart Third Baseman - Stephanie Toftt Outfielders - Francesca Enea, Michelle Moultrie, Meagan Bush Super Sub - Nicole DeWitt Relief Pitcher - Delanie Gourley 2nd Team DH/Pitcher/3B/OF - Aleshia Ocasio Pitchers - Hannah Rogers, Chelsey Sakizzie Catcher - Jannell Wheaton First Baseman - Ali Gardiner Second Baseman - Hannah Adams Shortstop - Skylar Wallace Third Baseman - Charla Echols Outfielders - Kelsey Bruder, Kim Waleszonia, Kirsti Merritt Super Sub - Ashley Boone Relief Pitcher - Stephanie Brombacher Although Lorenz was primarily an outfielder and Stewart a second baseman, they both did play some at 1B and SS respectively, so I put them there to try to maximize the lineups. This is subject to a lot of second guessing and alternative opinions, but these are 2 pretty impressive teams, IMO. Have fun!
Skylar Wallace not playing definitely hurt our offense. She is a difference maker and team leader. Gators wouldn’t have beaten UCLA or Oregon but would have won the game against Fullerton with her in the lineup.
I would never put any second baseman over Hannah. As for the rest of it, I will have to study. Thanks for the work.
Understand what you're saying. Adams was great. But I remember Paculba very well and from 2008 - 2011, she was excellent as well. And when you compare the career stats, Paculba comes out on top - but it's pretty close. Incredibly, Paculba played in 271 games, Adams 272 so the comparisons are pretty valid. Career Batting Average - Paculba .339, Adams .325. Slugging Percentage - Paculba .547, Adams .473 On Base Percentage - Paculba .448, Adams .433 Home Runs - Paculba 34, Adams 23 Fielding Percentage - Adams .986, Paculba .970 Most at bats in a career - Paculba 2nd all time to Kelsey Stewart with 821, Adams 5th with 804. Most runs scored - Paculba 2nd to Stewart with 253, Adams 6th at 196. Most hits - Paculba 3rd behind Stewart & Lorenz with 279, Adams 6th with 262. Most doubles - Paculba 5th with 48, Adams tied for 7th with 45. Most triples - Paculba 6th with 10, Adams not in the top 10 with 3. Most RBI - Paculba 7th with 176, Adams not in the top 10 with 142. Most Total Bases - Paculba 5th with 452, Adams 9th with 382. Most walks - Paculba 4th with 160, Adams 7th with 136. Most stolen bases - Paculba 4th with 67, Adams not in the top 10 with 38. Most defensive assists - Adams 3rd with 461, Paculba 4th with 451. Most double plays turned - Adams 2nd with 65, Paculba 7th with 47.
Adams is fresher in all of our minds, for sure. Aja had power and speed and was very good defensively. Hannah was slightly better with the glove and both are all time Gator greats. But I had to pick 1 for 2nd base on my first team, compared the numbers and made my call. That's why I moved Kelsey Stewart to SS because she HAS to be on the 1st team, even though she was primarily a 2nd baseman as well. That's the fun in discussing these subjective lists.
A friend on a group text sent some of this, which got me curious. This information is from the Ragin' Cajun schedule. Those rosters could face off in WCWS finals! Seeing all those names again brings a smile to my face. I don’t remember Bush playing outfield though. I thought she was SS/2b until injury forced her to 1b. She actually could have redshirted but she wanted to graduate with the class she came in with.
Yeah I know. She started her career at shortstop, then moved to first base after Ali Gardiner graduated. Brittany Walker and then Cheyenne Coyle took over at SS. I guess I should have put Bush at first and left Lorenz in the outfield, huh?
Coyle brings back bad memories. I really rooted for that kid until her and the Fagans got themselves booted.
