23 protesters charged with domestic terrorism after clashes with Atlanta police (msn.com)

Felony state domestic terrorism charges have been filed against 23 protesters arrested in Atlanta on Sunday after allegedly hurling bricks, rocks, fireworks and Molotov cocktails at police officers near the site of a planned public safety training facility, police said.

After attending a music festival near the site of the soon-to-be Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, a group of people changed into black clothing and entered the construction area at around 5:30 p.m. ET. The "agitators" approached officers there and launched a "coordinated attack," according to the Atlanta Police Department.

Twenty-three of the 35 protesters arrested Sunday were charged overnight with felony domestic terrorism, a charge Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said reflects the "very violent" nature of the attack.

"This wasn't about a public training center, this was about anarchy and this was about an attempt to destabilize," Schierbaum said at a news conference Sunday night. "When you throw commercial grade fireworks, when you throw Molotov cocktails, large rocks, a number of items at officers, your only intent is to harm."

I believe it is environmentalism combined with defunding police. While environmentalism (when not taken to the extreme of throwing improvised explosives) is something everyone should get behind, defunding the police is typically the domain of Joey and Friends.

I find it funny that municipalities have little issue with the defunding of police but a huge issue when voters who want law and order vote to form their own municipalities with similar priorities. Taxation without representation or some such thing, Atlanta is a great example.

Methinks these charges are nothing but an attempt to appear tough on crime so Buckhead residents don't try to form a new city again. They have the money to do it, and everyone knows if you want something it can be done if you open your wallet.

Any democratic politicians promote, support, or condone this behavior? Any of them float the idea of pardons?

Just a couple of tourists who were lost. The police welcomed them by rolling out the red carpet. These are political prisoners. Etc.

Hmm... Seems like only the protestors wear hurt: "No officers were injured during the incident, though police noted that 'the illegal actions of the agitators could have resulted in bodily harm.' Some of those arrested sustained minor injuries."

Seems like property damage and vandalism is the proper charge. What exactly defines domestic terrorism?

Guy I'm no fan of the capitol rioters but it's hardly even comparable to the entire cities that were lit on fire by Joey and Friends in the mostly peaceful protests before.

What buildings were burned down in DC? What cities are now dying from the DC riots and ensuing "movements"? Etc etc

At some point we have to rise above finger pointing or be doomed to repeat the same garbage forever. For what it's worth I also think a riot in the nations capitol to defend what you believe is taxation without representation makes a hell of a lot more sense than burning down random homes and small businesses because a felon who broke the law again was killed by police. Both groups should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but only one actually makes any sense.

What does firebombing a new police training facility in Atlanta have to do with either?

People who throw lit Molotov cocktails at people should be shot.

    My 2 cents

Attempted murder is bad, I agree. I didn’t read that’s what happened though. Definitely criminal conduct but they threw rocks and fireworks and burned a construction site. All crimes. Not attempted murder though. At least I don’t think.

Molotov cocktails, large rocks, frozen bottles of water, bricks. Potential deadly weapons when launched with vigor at humans, no? Not saying one or all were used that way in this case, but seems to me use of deadly force in self defense should not be out of the question. Unfortunately (maybe not?), the defending protagonists are rarely if ever allowed to defend themselves with equal vigor. If they were we might suffer a few more such incidents, but with continued conditioning the antagonists would likely be more inclined to stay home since plastic handcuffs and a couple hours on the hoosegow doesn’t seem to be a very effective deterrent.

Last I read of a police station being shot at and firebombed during protests, it turned out rogue interlopers and rabble rousers we’re behind it…I’m curious to know which individuals are really behind this. Anyway whoever it is definitely needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Plenty of people have been killed with rocks. It used to be a method of execution. Rioters should be shot 100%. They aren't protestors.

If the protestors are law abiding citizens who want positive change I'm sure they stopped the rioters and turned them in. In a positive protest they'd surely outnumber them 10 or more to 1.
