Not really. I learned recently that one of the biggest movements, prewar, was idolizing Hitler and trying to end democracy and bring Nazi fascism to America.

We had a thread on it ...

I think there's a great chance it will when the Boomers die off. Millennials and Gen Z are overwhelmingly liberal, some to a militant extent. Just in the company I work at I don't know a single worker under 40 who is a conservative. Given I'm only a fiscal conservative but I align with conservatives in general a little more than liberals (you'll be surprised but technically I have no party affiliation and consider myself a true libertarian). But I think when Millennials and Gen Z take over we will essentially have one party rule in most areas of the country. The few areas that Republicans control won't be enough to make any real difference. The Republican party will cease to be a major political party.

I really am starting to believe this is the case. They get off on trying to dominate the flyover states and they enjoy looking down on the middle of the country. They are arrogant and truly believe they are better that the people away from the coasts.

I also think they are secretly really scared that a southern country would work just fine and that a southern and midwestern country would actually be a pretty big power house. I think they secretly fear the idea of the middle of the country waking up and realizing the coastal areas of the country really aren't needed. The middle of the country controls the water, agriculture and energy of this country and the coastal elites don't want the middle of the country to ever truly realize that.

okay… so the pubs change their platform slightly to be less right. I mean, if they back off on the hating gay people routine, and take a “social moderate, fiscal conservative” stance, they get more votes. The Dems, lead by millennials, move further left and lose some voters… That’s what I meant by moving the dividing line…

    a. pubs ain't cons
    b. I'm 57 & if you think pubs & dems have governed differently in any significant way over that period, you have been brainwashed by THE PARTY & the media.

our differences are minor compared to the similarities.

So basically you just want the Republicans to become Democrat lite. Just admit it. Republicans now are already further to the left than they were generations ago, it will never be enough.

Just like how when Republicans win the Presidency or Congress it's always "Republicans need to cross the aisle, Republicans need to govern from the center" whereas when Democrats win the Presidency or Congress it's always "Democrats have been given a message, elections have consequences".

The Democrats are moving to the left because Millennials and Gen Z are moving to the left. Heck my oldest nephew is a Democrat and flat out wants Socialism and he's not t he first Gen Z say that.

So then let the states leave. Let Texas leave. Let the conservative states vote on secession and if it passes let them leave. By your argument if many of the southern and midwestern states leave the U.S. will be better for it. No longer having to pay for those freeloading states right? Why fight to keep them then if they add nothing to the U.S.?

A national divorce is a foolish idea on so many levels. The economic cost of such a decision would probably bankrupt half the country. We can’t agree on what to teach in school you think we can divvy up the military no problem? There would inevitably be war and economic devastation like we’ve never seen. And untangling all what the federal government provides and is responsible for would be essentially impossible.

honestly - a civil war, if it came to that, would be less costly overall then a national divorce imo. It’s just a childish idea.

I know they are dems lite. That's why I'm a Libertarian and not a Republican. Essentially you want them to essentially be Democrats while Democrats become Socialists. So then the choice becomes either left or extreme left. Either way liberals win and it's essentially one party rule.

This is one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard by the way. OP sounds like a traitor and I would definitely not call them a patriot

I mean you are right. I think a National Divorce is possible but it would be ungodly expensive. Like you said a Civil War probably wouldn't be as expensive but of course a Civil War would be far more bloody with hundreds of thousands dead. A National Divorce would at least avoid that.

Im saying both parties will adjust to the generational changes, and survive by exploiting whatever differences they can use to divide us, like they’ve always done. Mainstream Republicans and democrats probably agree on 95% of stuff already… it’s that 5% that people meltdown over….

That's funny considering I haven't voted for a Republican or Democrat for any office since 2004. I was dumb enough in the first election I voted in to follow what my parents did and voted for W. That was the last time I ever made that mistake and voted for any Republican or Democrat.
