Gator Baseball 2023 Official Roster Tracker/Lineup???

I watched Sully's comments from last night and I didn't like the answer from Sully when asked about Clemente. He said he is going to get a second opinion and then go from there. That does not sound like he will be back any time soon.

 

All three of Miami's starters are RHP. Reminder Halter does not hit RHP hardly at all. I hope we see more of Shelnut and Thomas at 3B this weekend. Shelnut has been struggling as well but Halter is only hitting .100 against RHP.
Also on Friday when Cags is on 1B and Riopelle is catching, our DH needs to be either Prevask or Heyman. Prevask is a lefty batting .600 but only 5 Abs, and Heyman has been a hot hitter lately now batting .429 in 21 ABs.

 

According to Miami's website Chestnutt pitched for College of Central Florida here in Ocala. CCF have been really good the last couple of years so let's see what the kid's got.

 

Sloan and Finnvold are unknowns at this time so your numbers could start at 15. But that's just me. Please keep Grantham out of this. I don't want to turn this thread into some place everyone wants to line up and relieve themselves over the football team. We are only 2 weeks into a 14 week regular season. Sure more pitchers than we want are having trouble and we had two really bad innings on Wednesday games. Yes some of these same pitchers have also ran into problems on the weekend but we were fortunate to run rule most of these problems away. We will know a whole lot more after this weekend when we see if our starters are as good as we hope and if Sully has a short list of relievers he can rely on. Remember 2 out of three from Miami is always a successful weekend. I just hope what happened two years ago doesn't sneak back up and bite us in the backside again.

 

A helpful reminder what Sully referred to in the last PC and revealed the obvious what he hopes to get from his pitchers this weekend. He basically gave us his road map for pitching that he could get us 80% of the way there. I added the rest.

Starters each go 6 innings with Sproat, Waldrep, and Caglianone. That leaves 9 innings left to cover.
Neely takes 3 of those innings which now leaves 6 innings.

I see Fisher and Slater each taking 2 innings a piece. Now we are down to two innings.
That leaves Ficarrotta, Hartzog, Nesbitt, and Ursitti to get thru 2 innings total.
Sully said Tejeda could be used on Sunday after throwing 60+ pitches on Wednesday so I wouldn't expect to see him unless things don't go to plan.
If we have to use Abner, Purnell, or Jameson late in a game will probably mean Sully is saving his arms for a better chance to get the win the next day.
I don't expect to see Arroyo unless its for a batter or two.
If any of the starters comes out before the end of the 6th then Fisher, Slater, and Ficarrotta will probably need to cover more than 2 innings each.
I would hope Sully remains patient with Sproat, Waldrep, Cags, Neely, Slater, and Fisher hoping each of them get thru the innings this staff needs if we want to win all three.
I believe if we face extra innings on Friday or Saturday Sully will go for the win and try to win those two by pushing some arms as needed. Sunday would be an after thought if we have already won the weekend.

 

Well I'll Suwanee. The Gators held Miami and their big hitters to only one run in the last 8 innings on a night when the wind was whipping out to LCF. And we're not even talking wafting, more like billowing. Needless to say I'm pleased as punch. Sad for Sproat to give up that 3 run digger but that's what can happen to a pitcher who is always around the plate on a windy night. What's better he did exactly what we have been seeing and managed the rest of his 5 innings by shutting down any big threat and only allowing 1 other run. What's even better Fisher did his job and took the other 3 innings. This puts Sully's plan ahead of schedule for Sat/Sun and keeps the bullpen full of really good arms. Onto Saturday to see if Waldrep can handle his 6 innings and turn it over to Neely if needed.

 

This is about what tonight's game tastes like. I'll have a large please.

 

I hear you all for feeling troubled by our continued problems from the bullpen. I didn't think that could happen again on a weekend.

I am though completely lost by three choices Sully made. They are.....
1. A. What did you think you would get by sending Waldrep back out there to start the 7th after giving up a 2 run homer in the 6th? And B. What happened to letting a guy come in from the bullpen pen to start an inning fresh instead of dealing with runners in scoring position? Remember your plan for the weekend. If each starter would just get thru 6 innings then we just need a few guys to take it from there.
2. Jameson! Are you kidding me? Is this your kind of statement to the rest of the team to see if he can throw strikes when its 6-6? Have you looked at the wins and losses stat column to see which pitchers have lost the three games for us? I'll give you a hint, they all rhyme with Jisher Fameson.
3. I guess you made everyone aware of your thoughts about Finnvold as a pitcher at the end of the game. Put him in when the game is over and don't even bother to get somebody up until he gets thru the inning.

 

Now for my perspective.....

We have 3 really good, even close to outstanding starting pitchers. We have two proven closer/relievers in Fisher and Neely. We have a few unknowns that seem to be off to good starts and need some short stay opportunities to help build their confidence with Ursitti, Nesbitt, and Hartzog. We have two dependable arms that could be mid relief guys in Slater and Tejeda. Lastly keep using Nick Fic in spots with a lead but don't leave him out there more than an inning.

The point is on weekends after the starters are done stick to Slater, Tejeda or Nick Fic, mix in a short stay (I mean no more than 2-3 batters) with Ursitti, Nesbitt or Hartzog, and get to either Neely or Fisher to close out the last two innings or whatever is left.

For now whatever you do, don't use Jameson, Purnell, or Abner on the weekends and apparently add Finnvold to that list.

Lastly, on Sunday, no matter how big of a lead we have the rotation should be Cags(no more than 6 innings after 90 pitches), Nesbitt(1 inning or less), Fisher(1-2 innings), and close it with Neely. If we can't win with that then the year really is just another year like the last two years all over again.
