Exodus of all these coaches?

Just curious. What was Florida's national ranking in total offense and scoring offense in 2009?

 

My dad traded I’m his 68 convertible Camaro ss for a puke green 74 ltd. He didn’t get to have opinions on cars anymore.

 

I dunno but Harvin was missing and that alone would affect how a coaches aura looked.

They both make a difference but I’d take Harvin and the flavor of the year coach.

 

Without Mullen Meyer revealed how little he knew about coaching an offense. All he knew to do was hope like hell Tebow could pull off a miracle. He did until the SECCG

 

True but no Harvin. Special players make a big difference. It was easier to key on Tebow without having to worry about Harvin every play. Mullen is a good playcaller no doubt but his offense isn’t confusing anyone, it’s just the choices that defenders have to make. Take Harvin out of the equation and your choice becomes much clearer.

He ain’t wrong though.

 

I looked it up. It was ranked 6th in the nation (1st in the SEC). Not bad, considering they played five top 25 defenses.

 

They were still good but stats don’t tell the whole story. 08 offense was going to move the ball and eat clock at the very least.

 

Though the 09 offense was very darn good, it was nowhere close to the 08 offense.

 

We lost three coaches. Hardly qualifies as an exodus. Lost a TE coach that produced little on the field in a TE-friendly offense, and even less on the recruiting trail. Lost the DC of a still-bad defense. Lost the WR coach of a receiver corps that looked average at best outside of Pearsall. All left ostensibly for promotions. Alabama seems to turn much of their staff over every year and yet every year Saban still competes. The sky is not falling.

 

Okay, but how does one measure that? Yards are yards, and points are points. The reason I think this belief is so prevalent is because people have visions of Percy running wild and wide open, or our receivers doing so while Percy is double-teamed, and Tebow can sit back and throw in the immediate zip code. And I strongly agree with that. With Harvin out there, our offense appeared effortless, and it often was.

Here opponents have to face a quarterback who is a battering ram with 11 defensive players. Play him neutrally, and he's get 6-10 yards a pop without even having to juke. As such, the DC has to put 8 in the box to contain the quarterback. That leaves four to cover Percy and two other receivers, all of who are a mismatch against one on one. And if they happen not to get open, we'll break out our TE to break their hearts. That leaves our running back to do whatever he wanted. No one will expect him to carry the ball.

It was gloriously unfair! And as much as I loved Rainey and Demps, they could not completely replace Percy. Yet they did very well themselves.

When people think about the 2009 offense, they all thought it sucked, and naturally blamed Addazio for it, but what fans are doing is comparing it to the 2007-8 offense. Fans even think the 2006 offense was weak, let it was ranked 19th while playing eight top 25 defenses. If they had Ohio State's schedule rather than their own, Chris Leak might have ended up in New York City for the ceremonies.

The disparity in scores between 08 and 09 is what I remember most, without doing the math. I cannot speak for all, but I was totally confident that we would win the NCAA Title in 08, even after the Ole Miss debacle. Now in 09, we were undefeated in regular season, but I did not then have the confidence of an NCAA Title like I did in 08. Was just a gut feel.

That 08 team was a total machine.

 

The 2009 offense sputtered against most real competition. They feasted on the gimmes but were disjunct often for the meat of the schedule. They put up 41 on Georgia and 30plus on fsu but struggled to put up 13 on lsu and 26 on Tennessee. I want to say we put up some good yardage but couldn't put up points.

 

It was those 14 play scoring drives that took eight minutes off the clock. We knew we were going to score and when the other team didn’t, we scored again and the half was over.
