This is the crux of the issue. They have almost no leverage- espn doesnt have to give them more money, why would the other schools give up any of their already low payout and then throw on top of that, where are they going to go? Maybe the big 10 expands south, but not sure either school fits the academic profile, they don't add any market for the SEC, neither make much sense for the pac 12, maybe the big 12 but how stable are they?

The ACC does not have more than four teams capable of competing in the current pay for play football landscape. The old big 12 had two, and they are now in the SEC. Over the next ten years the edifices of the amateur model of college football will crumble under these market forces.

I’m sure all the other ACC peons will vote to allow those 3 to get a larger share of the pie………NOT! Remind me again why :emoji_circus_tent: U chose to join the mighty ACC??[/QUOTE]

In my opinion, it takes a certain look to pull off wearing a turtle neck and he doesn't have that look. With him, he looks a little light in his loafers.

Try being a fan of a PAC-12 school. Talk about *^#$!$#@#*!

Lots of interesting things that may or may not happen, especially with current market forces. ESPN is losing 8 -10 million subscribers a year between cord cutters and cord nevers who aren't replacing older customers. At one point, ESPN had close to 100 million cable subscribers. Today, that number is closer to 70 million. Many industry insiders believe when ESPN gets closer to 50 million, they will announce a move to streaming games only on ESPN+. How else are they going to survive with a future that sees declining revenue from cable company carriage fees, and increased costs they must contractually pay out to the SEC and pro leagues?

There was a suggestion that the ACC and PAC-12 merge, and with Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC on the Atlantic, and Washington, Oregon, and Stanford on the Pacific, an APAC (Atlantic-Pacific Athletic Conference) would be 3rd behind the SEC and B1G, but not that far behind. One potential issue is rumors are the B1G are interested in Oregon and Washington to give the LA schools some travel partners, and UW and Oregon would go, even at a partial share price. If the Pacific NW schools go to the B1G, the 4-corner PAC schools (Colorado, Utah, ASu, and Arizona) will go to the BIG12. No other, half-decent options other than the BIG12.

If this happens, we're likely heading for a college sports world with a Power 2 (SEC and B1G), and a bunch of also-rans. The questions become which top leftover teams from the BIG12 and ACC get invites, from whom, and what former P5 teams get shut out?

WTF is a GOR? In automotive it’s a Grille Opening Retainer, but I’m pretty sure that’s not what you’re talking about

Was going to post it's a green, reptile alien from Star Trek. But that's a Gorn. A GOR stand for Grant of Rights, which is the part of the contract where the school turns over their right to negotiate on its behalf, and in return, all revenue the school generates goes to the conference for distribution. The ACC GOR doesn't end until 2035/36, meaning the ACC schools are locked in until then. FSU lawyers stated recently they could break the contract for around $120 million. The PAC-12 GOR is ending this season, and as of yet, no new one has been signed.

It all goes back to Blobby in the early nineties when he stated that he would rather be a live coward than a dead hero in reference to halfassu joining the SEC. Instead they joined the football light ACC. He knew that it would give him an easier path to a MNC in football. Nole fans didn't want to look as though they were chickenchit by joining essentially a basketball conference to puff up their football resume so they adopted the following spin. Typical Nole logic. Just about every Nole that I came across noted that the reason they joined the ACC was 2-fold. 1. By being in a tough basketball league it would by default increase the quality of its basketball program. and 2. They would be the catalyst for improving the conference stature in football. Being that the other schools would have to by necessity improve the quality of their play. So now the chickens have come home to roost so to speak.

To keep up with the conference expansion craze, the ACC added a number of members who just were not good overall fits for the conference. Add to that a bad television deal and a Mickie mouse TV network. Kanell is just parroting the crybaby stance of the FsU AD in regard to the big disparities in per member revenues compared to the SEC. Locked in for a long long time with no easy or cheap exit possibilities. I don't feel sorry for them in the least.

I didn't remember him saying that. Sounds 100% right. Let Kanell squeal. The more he does the worse everyone knows it is for the Holes.

fsu and SCuM will be bottom feeders in the SEC. They aren't relevant now and joining the SEC isn't going to help them at this point. What do either of them really bring to the conference? Neither of them improve the conference in anything.

He did say that the SEC was "too tough" or "hard" kind of stuff, though.

I believe that is also the reason Okie and texas had to wait until theirs in the Big 12 ended to switch to the SEC. The Grant of Rights is where schools can benefit or really get screwed if the conference commissioner is not very good.

The big 12 collapsed into that lame dust it will be in 2024 because of unequal sharing, fsu can whine all they want but they have no where to go.
