No, but when they did walk through the door, were we excited, thinking we had back to back NC's on the horizon?

please don't use the excuse that Golden had to deal with all these players getting use to each other. Missouri had ten portal players and they are going the NCAA . The ironic thing is one of Missouri loses was to us.

Can't we have a little fun too? You should be happy since the men and women both beat Missouri and you have bragging rights. Football too. Head-to-head trumps their pickpocketing a ticket to the dance. Besides, I'd bet (pretty heavily if I did) they will be gone from the Tournament their first weekend if not their first game. You'll still have head-to-head! LOL! :)

PS -- I'm used to dealing with real delusional November UcheaT fans and telling them to, "Come back and talk when they beat Florida" usually shuts 'em up.

I was highly excited about that class. Back to back champs? Of course not. But we were a damn good team and I remember thinking Brewer and Horford were missing pieces that could immediately push us over the top (unfortunately it didn’t work out that way, with another disappointing NCAA exit that year). I had no idea about Noah, but he showed some flashes of serious productivity as a true freshmen.

Despite being high on the 04’s, I also recall thinking we were screwed when Roberson and Walsh left early, because of how much scoring they accounted for. I think what nobody could have known was how well things would mesh when Green and Hump were in the backcourt, that the 04’s + Hump were a perfect starting 5.

If you were in Raleigh for the first round NCAA loss against Manhattan, you would have witnessed a very selfish basketball team. Roberson was the worst. Billy lost it when Chris Richard would not even enter the game late.

I think the jury is out on Golden and to say anything different is high conjecture.
That being said, why is our incoming recruiting class so poor by conventional standards?
I mean usually, when you hire an up and coming coach, they are pretty solid on the recruiting trail after the transition year.
Hopefully next year will be better.

Agree with every word except for Noah. I remember him as a turnover a touch and completely overwhelmed anytime he got on the floor as a freshman. His sophomore jump was incredible.

I'll also never forget how eye opening their early season tournament win and particularly their game against Syracuse was. The ball movement was seamless and selfless. Totally different style of play from just one year prior. Had no idea if it would last but it was the most fun watching since that 2000 run and 94 prior to that.

Edit to add, a player overhaul from one year to the next changed the style of play considerably.

Golden did say recruiting is going well. Obviously a coach will always say that. Hopefully he backs that up with some 2024 commits. 2023 seems like it’s probably about transfer portal, so there is no way to say that’s “going well” since there’s still a few months before the portal action even starts.

To be clear, not saying I saw that 2nd year jump from Noah coming. Just remember thinking “who is this guy”. Looking at the game logs, must have been based on his early season play before the SEC grind started. He had some spurts in the 1st half of the season. The stats don’t really backup a turnover problem as he had less turnovers per 40 minute as a freshmen vs. when he became a star, but BD did apparently cut his minutes down to near zero down the stretch so can’t really say he had momentum into year two. I actually didn’t remember that tailing off as a freshmen.

Lets take a step back Billy's '98 class started it off:
    Dupay, Miller and Haslem.

then the '99 class gave us depth, and we went 10 deep:
    Harvey, Nelson, Bonner, Just Hamilton

Always loved how that 99 team played!

Yes, I can brag and I do. Tired of Missouri thinking a game against us is considered a win. I am super happy about us beating Missouri, I would like us to beat some other teams as well.

Honestly I never expected Missouri to become so competitive in the SEC in numerous sports. It would be fun to check out UF in Mizzou at a football or basketball game.

Noah had mono during this freshman year and at some point had to shut it down.

Actually, I think Mizzou has been a bit of a disappointment in basketball since joining the SEC. They have a losing record against most of the SEC, including UF.

Interesting that they r yet have a winning conference record in baseball. This year probably no different.
