NEWS: In its first NIL infractions ruling, NCAA sanctions Miami WBB for violations in the recruitment of Haley & Hanna Cavinder. As recruits, Cavinders dined at booster John Ruiz’s home. Ruiz’s tweet that night drew NCAA attention. Miami WBB coach Katie Meier facilitated the meeting between Cavinders & Ruiz, NCAA says. Meier was suspended for first 3 games of this season. Other UM WBB sanctions: - 1-yr probation - fine of $5K + 1% of WBB budget - reduction in OVs & recruiting days Committee on Infractions Chair Dave Roberts tells @ByPatForde : “We’re not telling [boosters] we’re going to slam you, but don’t take this as precedent that it will never happen. … Boosters can’t help recruit, and they certainly can’t give inducements.” Miami businessman John Ruiz to @SInow on UM ruling: "Had it personally had impact on me or my company, I would have sued the NCAA and they would have a big battle. This is a cop out for the NCAA to say they did something." Ruiz to @SINow : "It’s upsetting for these girls that have nothing to do with this. Ultimately, NCAA has to appear they are doing something. It’s up to the school to resolve these grievances w/the NCAA. If it was up to me, I’d go after them and it would not be a good day for them"
What's the NCAA gonna do? They are toothless, spineless cowards with zero power or authority whatsoever.
That asshole is always trying to pick a fight. I can only hope one day the right entity decides to take him up on it and beats his ass
They need testimonies that are going to be hard to come by. No one is filming tge shady proceedings except the above dipshit.
If this is a violation with consequences, I think there are worse things coming, esp for these public deals Ala Ruiz (and Rashada, sadly).
Bamas guys that do exactly the same thing know to keep their head down. If you’re going to cheat, don’t brag about. The need for self glorification is going to get the booster in hot water.
It’s pretty ticky tac bs when the reality is that we are all involved in pay to play. The charade is laughable at best.
The deal itself is not a violation...the violation is that the coach set-up the meeting, and was somewhat involved.
Ruiz firm had 4 million in revenue and $118 million in expenses. Stock now worth less than a dollar and likely delisted from NASDAQ. Said business would earn billion. Seems like a scammer.
Dude is nothing more than a classic fraudster bilking investors with nothing more than vaporware and hype. It would not surprise me in the least if he spends some time in the graybar hotel in the future. Of course UM will claim victim hood and totally skate on any of their obvious NCAA violations as usual.
It will be a beautiful day this fall when his company crashes and all of the players that he bought will find out that his checks are now rubber. Then they will have to settle into the misery of knowing that they will no longer be playing in front of 70,000 rabid Canes fans on Saturday anymore. Oh wait, I guess they aren’t really used to playing in front of 70,000. Sorry, I guess that they will wallow in the misery of not playing in front of 15,000 people and 55,000 empty seats.
Wonder if they will pull the reverse stock split to stay above the $1 threshold like my wife's old firm did.
If that happened, I'd be curious to see how loyal he is to his beloved hurricanes compared to saving himself if possible. I'm betting he'd sing like a canary but like you said miami would still somehow skate
