The Meyer comparison pointed out no flaw in my logic. It's not remotely applicable. Dan Lanning is a much better point. But Lanning went to GA where a defensive guru is the HC. Our HC isn't an offensive our defensive guru and his first choice for DC got us the 97th ranked D. It's not wrong to be skeptical.

 

Saban got rid of his dc if you ask Bama fans and they wanted him gone. Our guy was brought in in favor of being the future dc.

You must’ve missed all the big name hires we did under Muschamp at OC. That worked out great.

Taking a chance on a guy he’s never worked with based on stats isn’t what Billy values. He weighs previous working relationships and keeping the current system so our players don’t have to go thru again what they did last year. It’s as close to staff continuity as you can get and still move on from a guy.

I think the dude has proven himself plenty as a defensive coordinator. I think recruiting is more a wait and see and this is more an area of concern IMO.

A person with a modicum of intelligence would probably want to look at how the defense improved under his tenure vs the previous coach....as well as important measurables such as points allowed, turnovers, red zone defense, etc. A mouth breather might cherry pick the least impressive measure from his first year and ignore the huge leap that was over the previous season

Not sure i can buy this one. Our total defense was 97th in 2022, and was 51st in 2021. I could buy this if the difference was about 5-10 rankings apart, where a careful analysis of the more nuanced rankings are separately taken into account.

And very superficially, strictly based on the numbers, we were WORSE in the second half. Of course, our schedule was backloaded somewhat to partially account for this...

97th in total defense is 97th. Been around the Gators since Jimmy Carter was President, and i nevere saw it THAT bad...
