It’s painful to witness the rationale many are using in regards to the new hire. Everyone wants an established, well-reputed DC. Guess what, those guys are candidates for HC positions. And if Napier hires a young guy and he does well, he’s leaving in a few years to be a HC.
Would you say stoops had an impressive resume before UF? And why did it take 6 years to hire “an equal”?
When I said "bargain basement" I meant how the A's manage their roster. Moneyball (the book, not the movie) was one of the most important books for me, ever. They look for value where others might overlook it. So instead of signing the big free agent they look for the cheaper up and comer. Because they can't afford the massive big free agent. It has worked many times- but not always. Their record for being a small market club is actually really good. But many times it doesn't work. (This past year for instance.) My analogy to us was that we seem to sign the up and comer vs the established superstar. To be clear- I like both head guys (Napier and Golden) though neither was an established superstar. But yeah- I'd prefer we went "big and established" for both DC and OC instead of "up and coming" or "non-existent." It's fine if you or anyone else disagrees. I don't need to be told to shut up for expressing this opinion. As I said, it may work out. I hope it does. I just dont' see the harm in going after a big time DC or OC- again, like Clemson did with Venables. I wasn't talking about how much money we are paying anyone. If anything I'd say we can get a top quality OC and DC for that money, but we don't.
Lol. The edited version actually feels more menacing than my original post. Continue with your gateway keeping, son. Good effort.
Ok- thanks. After I thought about it I see where you are coming from. On some FB groups the vitriol towards CBN is so ridiculous. Every single mistake is held up to a microscope and he's pulverized by these idiots. It's like they just want to hate on someone. It's toxic, and you are right- they really hurt the program. They should just shut up and go root for UGA or whomever is winning that year. So I can see why someone would take my honest questions as that. But it's not. I'm usually the "put away the pitchforks" kind of fan. I'm the last one off the bus, actually. (I was with Mullen.) I'm just honestly perplexed as to why we can't go after someone more established than a 37 year old from La-Lafayette or a 29 year old position coach from Bama for DC. I mean- it's DC!! This is a big time job. But yes- you are great Skink and a real asset to the board!
We should have already hired Ike Hilliard to coach WRs and at least a Co-OC. Was impressed with what he did this year (with almost zero playmakers) at Auburn. I bet he’d recruit well too.
Who hugh freeze hires/retains is not even receiving votes in the top 100 criteria for a candidate. I have no idea how he'd do and get he only has one year in college but having been an NFL coach and player can't hurt his appeal to recruits and coaching at your alma mater just means a little more.
What’s the backstory? Prior relationship? 247 lists Bateman as the primary recruiter, is that just lazy reporting? I assumed graham was inside, will he be coached up more by Peterson? Thanks! and then the whole Armstrong angle going forward.
Well then I guess you love we already have the AU OC on our staff as an analyst and may make him either WR or TE coach!
