I think they got the call and jumped at the opportunity. Good for them, to be honest. Some dream of coaching in the NFL, too. CBN had an answer for DC, and Colbert can handle WR/TEs for this up coming year, IMO.

Yes. This will tell you exactly whether Toney left of his own will. And whether the NFL stole him from us or not. We all know the answer.

Yeah, and I bet you said the same about Urban when we brought him in from Utah.

So, Mr. Expert, who do you think we should have hired as DC? Bob Stoops?

I was doing big things in my career before 30. Maybe you did as well. I’m not going to write this dude off if he’s who Billy wants

And last year BN wanted Toney. :(

Never heard of the guy and I'm guessing most here haven't either. Not many 29 yr old DCs around...for a reason.
Hope he's a phenom. I'm not writing anybody off and hope it works out, but there is something to be said for experience.

My many years of watching Gator football. The fanbase and the team deserves better than an inexperienced guy. This is supposed to be a top tier football program. This is not the farm team program. Guys like this are supposed to prove themselves at a lower tier school and then we come and snatch them up.

If you took that bet, you'd be wrong. You're comparing UM, a guy coming off an undefeated season and a top 5 ranking when he came here, to a guy who only has 2 years as a DC at a bottom feeder SEC school? Clueless.

I read something online that stated Leonhard was going to take a year off for a hip replacement. Don't know why he was in talks with Philly but apparantley not enough mutual interest.

Not a fan of Toney or Peagler, nor am I excited about a relatively inexperienced DC. The only upside at this point is the possibility of continuity in culture AA will bring. Hopefully the scheme will be changed radically or implemented more effectively.

Regarding going to the NFL, if the NFL pays me 800k, I'd take that over $1m and the $#!+show that is college recruiting. But I'm old and don't suffer fools. I do teach 18-21 year old all day and can only imagine what they're like with a little power and fame. Dealing with that 365 would be a nightmare!

I realize that forums are a way of getting valuable information efficiently instead of the old trial and error ways. So let me assist you if I may.

Go and stay at a Holiday Inn Express, if just for one night. It will all make sense afterwards.

    You are most sincerely welcome.

The fact Saban wanted him on his staff is enough evidence Armstrong is most certainly an upgrade over Toney. How much of an upgrade is the question but I’m fine rolling the dice on this guy as Napier continues to repair the program.

I hope it all works out- so very much.
But yeah- there are legit questions to ask- like why didn't we hire someone with more experience.
The analogy to the Oakland A's is perfect- they are a bargain basement club so they look for undervalued talent.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but they are always operating with current disadvantages because MLB.

So why are we, one of the richest programs around, operating the same way? Looking for bargains?

I know asking questions bothers some on here- and they say "why worry?"
I guess it's easier to never question anything and pump that sunshine.
"Ours is not to wonder why, ours is but to do or die." Right?

I would point out that we play 2X national champ UGA every single year, plus FSU. LSU, Tennessee, and many others.
They are not in the bargain basement, so I don't understand why we are.

Umm.. show me where I ever said Toney sucked? I never did. Sorry.

I didn't like our defense, no one did, but I trusted CBN to pick the right guy AND I knew all new coaches have growing pains.
Also- our personnel didn't look good under Grantham so I was hoping for better, but I wasn't surprised.

So I'm just surprised that all of sudden CBN says whoops- he wasn't the right guy after all.

Sorry if that bothers you- as you have quoted me twice now.
I think they are legit questions to ask- since after all this is a discussion board.
