Napier started with a complete mess though. He has to show improvement and beating one or two would be just that. That would still be a very bad record but I just want to see the program getting better. I’m not necessarily going to grade that with a win loss total. We don’t know if the teams on our schedule will be top ten teams or six win teams. We need to see the guys Napier brought in getting better. Our def needs to be too 50ish. I don’t really expect our offense to be better at this point. There are no proven players on offense. Mertz could surprise and we may or may not have a decent line for our talented backs. Freshmen receivers seek dimly are big difference makers. Napier may have to do an outstanding job to have a top 50 offense. I’ll watch and decide what I think instead of just looking at our record.
I don’t think anyone is saying he needs to be out here talking smack. What we are suggesting is a laser focus on rivals, not referring to them as “great programs” or by name at all and a complete fire during practice and game week. To your point- he was 6-7 so being out here acting business like -ala Saban- ain’t cutting it either lol
It was not a complete mess. It wasn’t close to our standards but we’ve recently been to multiple NY6 bowls (aka good years) and had top 25 talent. We definitely underachieved Let’s not act like he walked into a Vandy situation
waiting for our Head Coach to learn to be a winning big-time head coach has been the downfall of our last 3 hires and 4 of our last 5 the writing isn’t on the wall yet, but these interviews sure start to sketch out what it’s going to say - open up the checkbook and hire a proven head coach or be left behind Kirby Smart is probably the lone exception to this, and his coronation as UGA head coach was seemingly predestined since he started getting recognized at Bama
Yep, if our program was in such great shape, why did it fall off a cliff starting in December of 20? Before 22, we had 3 losing seasons mixed in with a lot of mediocrity and a few highs. That's not what I call trending in the right direction. Denial of a problem doesn't lead to fixing it.
Year 1. Last year was Mullen evaluations on display. But but but …he doesn’t sound like Spurrier in interviews. Really??? Kind of a dumb take.
Some improvement and consistency would be huge. Beat the people we're supposed to. Get a surprise win. Team chemistry should improve this year as well. No quit. If Mertz can make a difference, be consistent, hit the guys he's supposed to...things could change for the better. We have some beefy boys on the line. We've addressed most all of our needs. Couple-few additions from the portal. The team has a very positive outlook. They are feeling confident. Not cocky, but confident. I'm excited for the spring game. Go Gators.
That's cherry picking to fulfill a narrative. For an offensive guru, what did our offensive roster look like without Pearsall, Montrell, Torrence and Etienne? Even then, where was the team speed or deep threat? Where were the tight ends and why weren't top tight end talent lining up to play for the gators after the way Pitts was utilized? Same can be said for the quarterback room. The defense was in fact a train wreck as well. Mullen made chicken salad out of chicken shit at times and he's earned respect as a game caller and offensive mind but he ran the program into the ground. He was a terrible CEO and it caught up to him regardless of how well he started out for the first few years.
Good post. Winning 7/8 games and beating a rival or two are expected. And we have talented players. In year two it’s on the HC to bring in players that address area of need. Many examples of Guys that win quick/early and flip rosters quick around college football. Progress to mr means 8 wins this year even with a new Defensive Coordinator. If it happens replacement ( Austin Armstrong) has a ton of upside.
Ten and 2 it’s not bad and it’s very acceptable but it’s nowhere near elite. From where we are right now eight wins would be really nice.
here’s a thought that will ruin your entire month Chief - what if it’s the demonstrably horrendous coaching of Napier & Co. that was actually holding back the tremendously talented AR all season?
glass half full - Napier pushed him out because he sucks glass half empty - Toney saw the disaster up close and knows that Napes is toast in 22 months
