    Bottom of a pint glass
This was in response to the story that his star player, Brandon Miller, drove the gun out to his friend that was then used to murder a girl. How is it the "wrong place at the wrong time" when Miller decided to drive the gun to that place at that time? What a scumbag thing for Oats to say.

Police: Tide star provided gun used in shooting

The Alabama program knew this at the time Darius Miller was arrested. They let him keep playing for the last month. Whatever it takes to win, pay the stars to come there and cover up any problems. Both the AD and Oats knew of his involvement. On Finebaum a reporter from Birmingham said Miles texted Miller to bring the gun to him. Miller was in a car in the street close to where the killing took place. Oats in an press conference when ask about it, said Brandon was in the wrong place at the wrong time. OK, and no one is saying he knew what it was for. Sad…..
    Sweet home Alabama!

This is what I keep trying to tell people who say we need to do want it takes to win. Alabama will ALWAYS be willing to do more. We can’t compete with a school that cares about literally nothing else but winning. The argument is usually over football, but this proves it doesn’t matter. You have LSU boosters stealing from a childrens hospital to win LSU’s Exposure in the Our Lady of the Lake Scandal - And The Valley Shook
Auburn who is on probation about once a week, Ole Miss who recently got caught etc.
I know literally no one here will agree with me, but if not for some of the traditional rivalries, we outgrew the SEC as a university long ago. Our priorities don’t align with anyone except Vandy’s, and Vandy is just happy to collect a check.

Miller has not been charged, and Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats said later Tuesday that the program had been aware of Miller's alleged link to the case. Paula Whitley, Tuscaloosa chief deputy district attorney, told Al.com on Tuesday that "there's nothing we could charge [Miller] with."

I don't believe this is legally accurate.

"We knew about that," Oats said when asked about Miller allegedly bringing the gun to Miles. "Can't control everything anybody does outside of practice. Nobody knew that was going to happen. ... Brandon hasn't been in any type of trouble, nor is he in any type of trouble in this case. Wrong spot at the wrong time."

Several have pointed to Alabama as a model for Florida to emulate . . . like @oragator1 said . . . but there's so much more than just finding and (however done) signing the best players. These statements are just awful to have been made, checking almost all the boxes in the "Aw Shucks, Boys Will Be Boys" chapter of The Anything To Win Coaching Manual.

Honest Q: Is there a crime associated with providing a weapon that is then used in a felony?

Can't wait to hear folks chime in!
because if he lives on campus, I thought it was also illegal to possess a gun on campus.

also him and darious Miles are residents from different states, so gifting a gun to people in different states would be illegal unless its done through a FFl.
and if Darious Miles is illegal to possess a firearm, then it's definitely also illegal to give him a gun.
I'd be stunned if Miller isn't guilty or charged in some manner, loaning a gun like this in this manner, seems to obviously imply intent to kill.

I've read a few more things and most think the gun was not Miller's gun, but Miles left it in Miller's car and he gave Miles, Mile's gun back
and it was not Miller's gun used in the shooting. Hopefully the news stories clear this piece up -- he just gave miles his own gun back etc.

Just got a call to go get a gun and bring it to a bar? That's all. What could possibly be wrong with college student doing that? I'm sure their code of conduct is congruent with that.

And that eatlier statement was more than a month after the incident, keeping it quiet do they could rack up more wins. Obviously, their PR people drafted something for him later.

Another DA on the payroll. She probably discussed this with the Athletic department when this went down. Part of the Elephant mafia.
The sentence, “he didn’t know what Darius was going to do with it. They were teammates and friends. Complicit, but nothing will happen but the college athletic departments and fans of every team know this is a coverup to keep their star player playing!

No doubt, The school doing whatever it takes to win. He won’t miss a game. Any Bama fans on here should be thinking if they would have brought the gun to him when they were in school, would they have covered for you?

The news headline should come from the athletic,
Since they know everything that goes on in D1 sports, with the headline of their story, “Bama Lottery pick coverup!”.

I never thought I’d agree with this but college sports is becoming such a cesspool, it’s getting really hard to support any of it. Bama is openly protecting and allowing an accessory to murder to play.

I used to be proud of being part of the SEC, and I know it would never happen, but if a day comes when UF wants to leave the SEC, I won’t shed any tears. ‘Schools’ like Bama, LSU, Auburn are making such a mockery of college sports that’s it’s embarrassing to be associated with them.

Oates is who I have wanted most to replace Calipari. Really unfortunate to see him make a statement like this. I noticed his clarification, on twitter, but unless this kid is suspended, this is a good case of win at all costs.

I don’t know the law well enough to know if he committed a crime, but it shouldn’t be behavior that is allowable as a college player. If this was a UK kid, I’d want him off the team immediately.
