the simple answer that everyone should agree on is that whatever you thought of his presidency, he has lived his entire life with decency and honor, and will be missed.

Even his weak moments betrayed his honesty and desire to do the right thing, e.g., the Playboy interview where he confessed that he had lusted after women in his heart. He really needed to get that off his chest to believe himself worthy of the office, and anyone worthy of calling themselves a Christian thought no less of him for doing so.

on an insensitive morbid side, I do get a free day off from work for his funeral.

 

He will get a full presidential honor funeral at Arlington National Cemetery, for sure.

 

I'm a retired fed. One of my former coworkers made a similar comment after Ronald Reagan passed away. True but in extremely bad taste. By the way the reason that Federal employees in the DC area get a free day off is to reduce traffic on the streets for the presidential funeral procession. Same reason that Inauguration day is also a free day off.

 

Save the partisan nonsense for another thread and while I consider Carter a hero, the mess many left was cleaned up by Reagan.

Questioning his presidency was first done in this thread by someone who does not fit the mold of MAGA. Yet you call out the MAGA for responding? Seems weird.

People cant help themselves. He was a POTUS so politics will sadly creep in. As did Trump for some unknown reason.

 

actually, all federal employees get a day off when a president dies as a day of mourning. Only DC federal employees get off for Inauguration day in order to reduce traffic in the streets.

You've read my personal affection for President Carter in this very thread. I didnt call out a dem or a pub in my response, yet you ripped on pubs exclusively and somehow I was bring partisan? Are you even serious?

The world had huge issues when Reagan took office. Dating back for much longer than Carter. (Vietnam, Iran, Soviet Union, Berlin wall, etc.)

Some of that was before my time as Reagan is the first potus I clearly remember. But i dont think Carter built the wall or kept us in Vietnam or caused the rise of the USSR.

I literally blamed nothing of the mess that Reagan inherited directly on a democrat. I did quite the opposite.

Yet you blamed one side exclusively.

I have been in the presence of 3 US presidents.

Biden, Bush 2, Carter.

Hearing Carter speak was an incredible moment for me and outranks the other two combined.

 

I don’t have the time to set you straight on Ray Gun. His second term succeeds was built on the back of Volker. He did strengthen the military something that would have naturally happen (we are a warrior nation). But at the cost of bowing up the federal debt. Something that has contined to be fair but each Dem POTUS since has reduced the deficits of the previous GOP POTUS.

It just seems so disrespectful. The purpose of this thread should be to pay respects to a former president who by all accounts is a very decent man, who has lived his life the way people should aspire to live theirs and is literally dying as people post, he isn't even deceased. I can't imagine (but maybe I'm wrong) that they would critique someone's job performance at that person's funeral or while visiting him/her at Hospice (I do realize he is home under Hospice care, not at a Hospice House.)

If people can't wait until after his funeral to criticize his performance as president, at least have the decency to start another thread.

I praised Carter as much as anyone you will find. I will be truly saddened when he leaves us.

I put the blame on multiple people from both sides. You made up a corny name and blamed one side.

This should not be partisan.
We should be praising a man that literally has both sides praising his humanity and if anything lamenting the fact that we have no more like him on either side

I just pointed out how Ray Gun (made up in the 80’s) didn’t fix much. I’m not partisan I’m American (not Umnericun) Carry on as you wish.
