What a great man. May he have tail winds and a following sea.
Too nice and honest of a man to be president.

The best human being in the White House in my lifetime. A genuinely kind and decent man.

Until Ronald Reagan turned 90 in 2001, only two POTUS's (John Adams in 1825 and Herbert Hoover in 1964) had reached that age. Now four straight (Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush 41) have made it and everyone who hasn't is still alive.

All presidents before Obama were decent enough. It’s going divisive and downhill quickly. We need a Romney stat.

As I said on another thread, I think of all the presidents of the last 50 years, I admire him the most. What a life well lived.

Carter fixed the mess Nixon made
Clinton fixed the mess Regan and Bush the elder made
Obama fixed the mess the disastrous crooked admin of Bush the stupid made
Biden fixed the mess Trump the traitorous cretin made

    See the pattern?

Wishing the President's passing, if it is indeed his time, a passage that will be attended by many and with love. The ether will be receiving some amazing energy from this side.

Carter was elected during a tough time and after two bad Presidents in LBJ and Nixon. He is a good man and I wish him nothing but the best, but to say he fixed the mess he inherited is far from the truth. Struggles with record inflation, high gas prices and a looming recession were all results of his economic policies. In regard to foreign policy, give Carter credit for the Camp David Accords but his handling and response to an aggressive Russia and the hostage crisis in Iran during his term were both disasters.

Carter seemed to be liked and trusted as a man but not as a leader (look up his infamous “malaise” speech that might have been one of the worst ever given by a U.S. President). Carter’s own national security adviser may have said it best that Carter “didn’t fire enthusiasm in the public or inspire fear in his adversaries”.

Time has healed a lot of wounds and along with the fact he has always been considered an honest and good man, the public assessment of Carter’s time in office has risen over the years. But the fact is his approval rating at the end of his first term was just 34% and he lost the 1980 election in a landslide to Ronald Reagan, which both speak volumes to
his lack of success as President.

    Incorrect!

Inflation was the natural result of the end the moronically stupid wage and price control under Nixon. Paul Volker was appointed by Carter to chair the Fed to fix the mess and he did by raising interest rate to 20%. It finished the job of killing the economy but stamped out inflation though it took well into Reagan’s first term to do. Despite that his admin created more jobs than Reagan’s did in two terms. The inept military was similarly the result of LBJ’s and Nixons misadventure in Vietnam.

Similarly our misadventures of previous admins in Iran in support of the Shaw laid the foundation for the revolution

Elsewhere it was the Carter admin that first armed the mujahideen kicking off a proxy war that would eventually bring down a crumbling Soviet Union.

You really should gain an understanding of how an economy and world history works to have informed comment.

    Your initial instincts were correct.
Carter was one of the worst Presidents ever, yet perhaps the best human being after his term.
Carter ignited modern day radical Islam by abandoning the Shah and paving the way for Ayatollah Khomeini to take power in Tehran. Iran subsequently became the main state sponsor and promoter of international Islamic terrorism. When Islamists took over our embassy in Tehran, Carter was too weak to effectively respond thus strengthening the rule of the radical Islamic mullahs.

And hey, remember the Department of Energy Jimmy Carter created in 1977?
"....the department is far more concerned with recreating America’s energy infrastructure and reducing her dependence on foreign oil." Really? Give me a break. One of his greatest achievements that went nowhere.
Liberal heads would explode if he were the POTUS today.

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

A: That's right! Jimmy Carter and the DEMOCRATIC PARTY. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The DEMOCRATIC PARTY gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!
Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the DEMOCRATS turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

Excellent idea! A great infusion of talent flowed into America following the 70’s i leading to a boom in productivity and innovation. Our paltry population of 170M has swollen to 340M

This is dramatically oversimplified and more false than true. While the Shah did increase the growth and wealth of Iran he wasn’t exactly kind to religious dissenters who protested off and on for decades. It is true that at times Carter was critical of human rights abuses, and that was debated among Carter appointees as to handle. Nonetheless he did visit there and ultimately provided the Shah financial assistance. The Shah became sick with cancer and protests grew. Iran was the 5th most powerful military in the world.

The overthrow was the result of decades of interventions into Iran as well as a significant fundamentalist presence. To suggest that Carter caused all this is ridiculous. It would have taken a full on military US intervention to prop up the sickly Shah which isn’t something we could or even should do.

Presidents and Monarchs: Jimmy Carter and the Shah of Iran

This Social security accusation is an internet lie that has been out there for decades.

Social Security and You: Internet Lies About Social Security Never Go Away

The author asks this question: “Which political party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?” And he answers it this way: “That’s right. Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments. The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it.”

Once again, that is just absolutely false. In truth, actuarial studies have shown that workers living here illegally who manage to obtain false documents, including fake Social Security numbers, and who work “above the table,” pump about $2 billion per year into the Social Security system and never collect a dime in benefits.

Perhaps the author is talking about the fact that immigrants who have come to this country legally are able to obtain Supplemental Security Income benefits if they are poor and over age 65 or disabled. SSI is a federal welfare program that is funded out of general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes. The SSI program came about when Richard Nixon was president. And he definitely was not a Democrat.

    Confirmed by another source:

    https://m.jacksonfreepress.com/news/2008/oct/02/social-security-e-mail-debunked-by-snopes/

    A: That's right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, they began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them even though they never paid a dime into it!

Damning stuff, eh? Too bad it isn't remotely true, according to Snopes:

No one — whether he be a citizen, immigrant, or illegal alien — is eligible to collect Social Security benefits unless he (or someone else, such as a parent or spouse) has paid into the system. Someone has confused Social Security itself with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) — the latter is a federal welfare program "designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income" by providing "cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter." Immigrants can qualify for SSI benefits under certain conditions, but SSI is financed by general revenues and not Social Security taxes. SSI was not enacted by the administration of President Jimmy Carter (a Democrat); it was created and signed into law in 1972, during the administration of President Richard Nixon (a Republican).

Your facts are so far off it is laughable.
