I guess now we are hoping for an NIT bid - pretty sad but we are what we are, not a good team. Most teams will wear us out in the second half, if we are even close at half. I wouldn’t select us if I was picking the NIT teams. (and not a UF fan) I never understood why JJ was even on the team frankly. If he was a “project”, you could see it wasn’t happening. Nothing against him and he seems like a nice young man; but he is too slow and clumsy and has no shot. I can’t think he would be on many/any SEC team’s roster. But, he was a Gator and I wish him well. At this moment, next year could be rough.
I realize we are not the same team as Alabama, but an argument could be made they have the template for how it's done. I feel we have the talent - but *perhaps* are not putting as much focus on it. Would be a great question to run by our head coach. Irregardless.......I feel at this point this is one of the reasons we win or lose games.....
Jitoboh is fine as a backup. Nothing wrong with a guy sticking around. Did he deter another big from coming? I kind of doubt it given how shallow our depth is. The reality is Castleton is our only SEC caliber starter in the front court, probably the only guy on the entire roster that was upper half in the SEC at his position. The whole thing was basically built around Castleton, and really even that wasn’t exactly winning. Now we have mediocre guard play and bottom of the SEC bigs. It is what it is. Golden needs to recruit like mad, especially PG and up front.
Man, we were doing well in the first half manning up and driving to the lane for either a foul or a basket. Why did we go away from that in the 2nd half?
Can't really call our product a team when everyone plays for himself. Coaches and players accountable for this.
I love it when we share the ball till someone is open, these are the shots that have the highest probability of making. Alabama shared the ball and made us look silly. At this point we need to work on what is a good shot!
Alek and Neil’s Lane are pretty good rebounders. Alex got 6 and Neil’s got three in four minutes. Alex got four steals and one assist. four steals by being physical in the middle. add his eight points. Both of these guys deserve more playing time. With these two playing more our defense would be elevated and our offense also. Alex showed me last night that he could actually provide good picks for all our players where CC just stands there and opposing players run around him most times, this was what I thought was a nice surprise, I knew he could knock down some threes. Neil’s and Will should share a position to keep Will fresh and keep the defense at a top level.
There's a lot of technique to setting picks. It also requires technique from the player going around the pick. I agree that Alek did a great job last night & that often CC's picks aren't very effective.
Well, if he didn’t pick his man the first time he got in position quickly to try again. Up close I might add. His positioning was different then just being a statue. He positioned himself close and took the body slam time and time again. This is what CC couldn’t do due to him not wanting to foul which I am ok with, but I actually like a shooter getting a tough pick, then an open shot.
Aleks S acquitted himself quite well yesterday. Nice stats all around. He was 2 of 4 from the 3, and one of the misses was almost all the way down when it popped back out. When he got on the floor earlier in the season he was a long way from being ready. Now he's ready, and only looked shaky a couple times. I believe there was a short where he and JJ were on the court at the same time. Interesting experiment, and I wonder if we might see that against UK to see if they can keep Oscar from going off on us. Heck, I wouldn't mind seeing us go with Aleks, JJ, and Fudge together to see if we can get rebounds and rim protection. Let JJ park in the lane and try a zone. We need to throw some wrinkles at the Katz if we want to win.
