It was a solid opening night for our baseball Gators. Sproat actually pitched a lot better than his line shows IMHO. Defense was solid and the offense was really good. I saw not just good contact but aggressively hitting it where it was pitched. And well worth noting—the new guys in the lineup looked like they belonged there! Now let’s strap it on and get after’em again today Gators!
The last practice I was at on Monday the hitters had a bunch of doubles. I guess it shouldn't be any surprise at all the extra base hits we had last night. If the wind blows in our guys will need to focus on liners in the gaps instead of their launch angles. With CSU starting a lefty pitcher today, I'm hoping Sully lets Shelnut start again at DH to see how he approaches a LHP.
Oh he can. In spring practices Sully kept the shift on when Cags was at bat. Cags was routinely able to find a hit or two thru the left side. Plus he hit a few doubles to the wall in LCF in the gap.
A wide strike zone will help Waldrep more than most pitchers. He has a variety of pitches that circle the plate. A tight zone will result in more walks which will put more pressure on Riopelle. I expect CSU to run on Riopelle any chance they get early.
I know that you’ve got to have a smart TV-we’ve got the ROKU stick with ESPN on it-go there and move to ESPN+ and follow the prompts is the best I can do. You might check with @WESGATORS or @Gatorgal04 —they are much more tech savvy.
Several surprises with the lineup today. Fabian is at first and Shelnut is at third. Hopefully Gal will post the rest soon.
Gator Line up: #11 Robertson CF #36 Langford LF #14 Caglianone DH #24 Rivera SS #15 Riopelle C #2 Evans RF #6 Shelnut 3B #23 Fabian 1B #4 Kurland 2B #12 Waldrep SP
Bucs Line up #4 Wilson 1B #1 George CF #5 Rae 2B #10 Asman DH #0 Brewer RF #26 Payne C #19 Agard 3B #27 Brock LF #11 Aldrich SS #32 Gleason SP
Watching Shelnut throw to first with Fabian having to scoop a few might get interesting. Halter fires them across the diamond but Shelnut has to factor for the drop off on his throws.
