Just read that DeSantis is coming up to Illinois to speak to the Fraternal Order of Police. I might have to take some time off of work to attend.

He's going to change the name of New College to Ye Olde College. Only white men will attend. Women will be subjugated to stay at home, where they will take care of the children, cook and clean. (The 4 C's)

The Republicans are hell bent on making their "Hand Maiden's Tale" fantasy come to fruition.

Disantis is a strong Libertarian, and a centrist one at that.

The left has just gone too far left, anyone that is remotely close to the center is now the "far right".

This was done in retaliation to the FHSAA’s refusal to mandate the participants provide their menstrual cycle information. DeSantis, in DeSantis fashion, retaliated.

Convincing Republicans to be against government overreach would be a good start. It used to be an article faith for the party, now it is just lip service to make themselves feel better about what they have done.

Well it's been years since I've heard a pub say something conservative, but here it is!

Ron DeSantis' use of government power to implement agenda worries some conservatives | CNN Politics

    file under DUH!

“I’m a principled free-market conservative,” said Sununu, who is also weighing a bid for president. “For others out there that think that the government should be penalizing your business because they disagree with you politically, that isn’t very conservative.”

“You cannot censor your way to freedom of expression,” said Will Creeley, FIRE’s legal director. “You cannot trade one orthodoxy for another. What we’ve seen recently in Florida is a troubling willingness to do just that.”

C'mon, ursid, Ron DeSantis is a Joseph Stalin libertarian. Give him the credit he's due. ;)

DeSantis is a new breed of libertarian, the MAGA LIbertarian. The kind that bans books, controls what is being taught in schools, targets those whose sexual identities and preferences are at odds with his ideals, and suspends duly elected official he disagrees with. DeSantis is left of Kim Jung-un politically, making him a centrist in the eyes of many of his supporters.

this echoes what I have been noting as how the executive branches of government are usurping all authority as legislative branches just become rubber stamps for the party in power. this abdication of legislative, and judicial, responsibility is allowing for the ascension of authoritarian figures to control our government bodies. this is one way to lose a democracy. I don't have a team here, but am really concerned about our system going forward if we can't get away from the tribalism encourages by our enemies.

Editorial: DeSantis is king of the vengeful power grab, courtesy of Florida’s cowed Republican lawmakers (msn.com)

Part of the public eats up what he’s saying and cheers him on. The other, including the Miami Herald Editorial Board, is outraged with the almost daily barrage of manufactured crises (save for the one at the border). As the Editorial Board recently argued, DeSantis is a master of distraction. What gets lost in all that smoke he creates are the true impacts of DeSantis’ policies.

Whether you’re urging him on or screaming at the top of our lungs, you’re likely overlooking how much power DeSantis has concentrated in his own hands, and the hands of future governors. He’s getting plenty of help from lawmakers, who just gave him the ability to transport migrants from anywhere in the nation, along with $10 million from taxpayers, no questions asked. They also made it easier for the state to pursue election fraud cases without having to go through locally elected prosecutors.

This consolidation of power in Tallahassee predates DeSantis. For years, lawmakers have passed so-called “preemption bills” that prevent cities and counties from enacting their own regulations, usually ones that powerful special interests don’t like. Under DeSantis, that phenomenon is happening with unprecedented speed, benefiting mostly the state’s chief executive.
    .............................................
The real danger here isn’t just in what may happen at the FHSAA if, and when, DeSantis takes over. The true danger lies in how lawmakers have enabled the executive power to be in control and monitor the most granular aspects of the workings of Florida’s institutions with little accountability.

Now he's coming after the College Board. He truly acts like a petulant child and is suffering from a Napoleon complex.
