OSU is one of the "Untouchables" and I don't doubt it for a second. How you think the BuckNuts could pillage SO MUCH 5 star quality out of the State of Florida? The weather? Wonderful Ohio? LOL
Outside of Burke, none of these guys are considered blazers (at least based on their athletic profile coming out of high school). Helm was probably the fastest guy on the team and he left. Hill had ACL surgery and definitely is not back to where he was before. The fact that I cannot think of any super fast dudes outside of the freshmen is kind of telling.
Actually, looking way back, northern programs were the ruling body: OSU, Michigan, ND, Penn State…. USC and Bama were the two charter members from south of the border
agreed and i know exactly what you mean. Our 5 fastest non true freshmen are guys who probably couldn’t sniff making the track team (maybe Burke). We use to have speed on top of speed. Glad we seem to be getting back to that
Agreed, but the power of the media, for what it was those days, is why. What little bit of National coverage there was favored the northern areas because of pure numbers. The Rose Bowl allowed Southern teams to play in its early years (although it was 11 Years before a team from the Deep South was invited and Alabama won that one). Bama beat Southern Cal 34-14 in the 46’ Rose Bowl and the “Grandaddy of Them All” decided it should be reserved for Big Ten and PAC 12 (not sure it was called PAC 12 then) teams from then on. In recent years it was incorporated into the NCAA Championship Series so we heathens from the south were allowed back in. I can remember seeing sports clips from college football games before the movie payed at the “picture show” back in the day and it was always Rose Bowl clips or Michigan vs Ohio State. I remember thinking, if we played those teams we would beat them. I’ve always been a homer.
Yep, if you win the hundred yard dash but are in last place at 40 yards it’s not very good for football
Yeah the city has really grown over the last 10-15 years. My wife grew up around Clintonville. Sounds like that area has changed a lot since the 90s. Usually when we go we spend most of our time in that UA area since my mother in law lives on the Columbus side of Kenney Rd. I haven’t spent much time in Hilliard but I remember talking to Gatorcop on paid side since he lived out there. Dublin is really nice but like you said pretty expensive and that has been the biggest reason we have not moved up there yet.
