    THE FIRST PITCH
    • The University of Florida softball team continues play at Katie Sea-
shole Pressly Stadium this Friday through Sunday at the T-Mobile
Tournament with games scheduled against UCONN, Bowling Green,
    Central Michigan and Delaware State.

    • Last night the Gators defeated the Dolphins 11-0 (5 innings) in the
home opener. The duo of Charla Echols and Emiliy Wilkie hit home
runs in the Orange & Blue’s fifth consecutive five inning run-rule
    game of the season.

    • The Gators opened the season in stylish fashion outscoring their three opponents by the combined score of 65-4 at the USF-Rawlings Inviational and this week’s games against Jacksonville. The Orange & Blue won its first game 11-2 (5) over Boston University, then followed up with shutouts over Boston College, 9-0 (5), and Illinois State, 21-0 (5), along with a 13-2 (5) and 11-0 (5) wins over Jacksonville. It’s the first time in program history that the Gators have five-inning run-ruled their first five opponents of the year.

    • It’s also the most runs scored by the Gators in the opening five games of a season in program history. The mark is also the second most runs scored through the first five games of a season by any SEC program since softball was adopted by the league in 1997.

    • The +21 run differential against the Illinois State is tied for the second-largest margin of victory against an opponent in program history as the Gators defeated Ball State 21-0 on March 12, 2011. The largest margin of victory in program history was a 22-0 win over North Florida May 5, 2010.

    • Sophomore Reagan Walsh and freshman Olivia Gigante both hit grand slams in the Gators win over Illinois State, which is the first time since Briana Little and Janell Wheaton hit grand slams in the same game against Mercer in 2015. It was the second career grand slam of Walsh’s career and the sophomore followed up with a second home run later in the game for her first multi-home run game of her career

Three more scrimmages this weekend. Not that I'm displeased in the least so far, but I wonder if Walton will give more time to some of the non-starters.

Only playing 5 innings is killing reps for the backups

We actually play 5 games this weekend. UConn tonight, Bowling Green & UConn tomorrow and Central Michigan and Delaware State Sunday. Next weeks ramps up the competition in Palm Springs, CA, where they play Cal St. Fullerton & UCLA on Thursday, UC Riverside on Friday and Oregon on Saturday.
As for UConn, right now they are 1-2 with 2 games cancelled due to weather. They do play Bowling Green before they play the Gators today. Last weekend, they split a doubleheader with Georgia Tech (a good ACC team), winning 6-5 and losing 2-1, then they lost to North Texas (the top non-P5 team, ranked just outside the Top 25) 10-2. UConn was 38-18 last year.
It's hard to get bench players in the game when your team is only coming up to bat 4 innings when you're the home team and 5 when visitors. We haven't had a game go into the 6th inning yet. But he has gotten all of the ladies in for some action, but has to get the starters reps to prepare them for the tougher teams.

I'm guessing that we will get the game in, but the start will be delayed since the prior games are probably delayed since its now raining. Anyone who is at KSP with info, please post.

Uconn run-ruled Bowling Green earlier today. I think it was 13-2. Hightower pitching for the Gators tonight.
