Consider me surprised….. Texas fires coach Chris Beard for cause following arrest on felony charge of assaulting fiancée
Yeah, this took some guts, but I had said this was the most likely outcome. For the simple reason that if anything at all ever happened with Beard physically within the program aftet keeping him, UT would get destroyed reputationally and financially. From a risk standpoint it would have been really hard to swallow. And it’s a football school, this isn’t their driver internally or externally.
“Beard was fired for cause, sources tell CBS Sports. As such, he will not be entitled to any salary or buyout money from the seven-year, $35 million contract he signed with the Longhorns ahead of the 2021-22 season. The deal was set to run through 2028.”
They just had to wait until law enforcement did their thing. This is the definition of firing for cause.
Who will be the first to disregard perception and hire Beard, because he is if nothing else a proven commodity in terms of on court wins and losses.
Just saw on the ticker that charges were dismissed. https://www.si.com/college/texas/ne...arges-fired-texas-longhorns-coach-chris-beard
Why arrest him in the first place if you don't have the evidence to prove the charges? They knew who he was, and knew what the fallout would be for such a high profile arrest. I have said it before, and will say it again, that domestic violence charges--particularly in a high profile case like this--need to be seriously vetted before an arrest. It DOES happen, on occasion, that the alleged victim filed the charges for ulterior motives. But in America, the press judges first, everyone reacts, and then... Maybe people should get their day in court first.
They had the evidence, the woman recanted. https://www.si.com/college/texas/ne...-longhorns-coach-assault-allegations-statment without her, there was never going to be a conviction. Beard will now sue, settle for some ungodly sum, get another job somewhere that cares only about winning, and that school will have to hope and pray that his alleged anger issue doesn’t come out again, especially on a player. Because if it does they will be sued into oblivion. Which is exactly why UT didn’t think he was worth the risk going forward and was willing to settle down the line if this was the outcome.
Havent followed the facts, but wouldn't be the first time a victim recanted after considering l/t implications, i.e. $$. Hope she made the right call.
Sounds like she realized she was going to lose millions by telling the truth. Damn shame. Clearly the dude has issues, will any other school take a chance on him?
The official police report begs to differ. It clearly warranted for him to be arrested. The only reason he’s not going to be prosecuted now is because the victim, i.e. girlfriend doesn’t want her meal ticket found guilty and locked up for any amount of time. Like the cops don't know this happens all the time? "Evidence" is never particularly sound when it is based solely on one person's testimony, particularly when that person MAY have ulterior motives. T They should have more when they arrest on a case like this. Did they do any investigation beyond just taking her word for what happened at that time? Murder victims can't testify, but they build murder cases on other evidence.
