Teddy Bridgewater carried him at Louisville. CS is not head coach material. He’s an asset on your team though.

Not sure I agree for a couple of reasons.

    1. Almost every coach follows the same trajectory. You work up from GA -> Assistant -> Coordinator -> HC. Some pan out, some don't.
    2. Strong had some success at the top level. Not sustained, but lots of coaches get to that level and cannot have a winning season.

Much better assistant. Ok for a minute at Louisville, glare of the spotlight too bright at Texas. No go at South Florida. At least he’s smart enough to get back to what he did best. Not many are.

I am still inclined to believe that at 62 and given his recent trajectory, his best days are behind him.

I don't disagree that he was a better coordinator, but if it's the Peter Principle at work then 90% of coaches are in the same boat. Having any success as he did at Louisville is actually the exception, not the rule.

It's a very hard job (as we have seen up close and personal).

The fascination with this board and bringing back any coach that worked for UF in any capacity is so weird to me.

Best case scenario I can make is he would be a defensive equivalent to what Spurrier is doing now and basically an ambassador. He's not an alum like Spurrier but he spent as much time at UF as he has anywhere else. There's just no way he's still bringing it to the level he needs to be a top DC these days.

Simple concept in this case....He's available, our D in 2022 was the worst in program history, and his Defenses under Urban were mostly outstanding. Of course that was a long time ago, so there's that.

There are lots of people available - do we take them all simply because they’re available?

Toney deserves a 2nd year. Hell Grantham got 4! Our team was a chocolate mess on offense and defense last year. Yes last season’s D was one of our worst, but so was the year before — we’d be idiots to run off Toney after one season with precious little to work with.

Apparently that's the requirement for UF. That and they used to coach at UF.

I'm not advocating for Toney's removal, but our defense wasn't one of the program's worst in 2022, it was THE worst. We thought 2020 was bad, but we just had no idea.

Tricky. Easy to forget GA’s are students, too. But that furthers my point that if this is the end of the line for him coaching and I’m playing fantasy athletic director and spending someone else’s money I’m offering him an ambassador role.

If he wants to coach he can. It’s not the end unless he says it is. He has value.
