No. I’m not saying if he didn’t have his issue, then XYZ. I’m saying that we wouldn’t clear him to play this year. I don’t think he plays last year under any circumstances, but he was ready this year, and KSU stepped up where we failed to do so.
What mistake? Firing MW, is that what you mean? Because I'm pretty sure that's why Tyree is gone, since MW was the reason he came here. As for KJ, I would have liked for him to stay - but even if cleared would he have stayed for Golden? I'm just not sure where you are going with "don't repeat the same mistake" other than firing MW.
I like Golden. Hope he recruits good enough to get UF back to competing for top spot in a much improved SEC soon. A agree this team plays with grit and doesn't give up. It's so hard for me to get excited about this team when they are sooooo offensively challenged. Feel that way with multiple Gator teams and I usually lean towards the optimistic side of life in general, but whew its tough to be optimistic right now. Feel like this is a team of misfit toys with all the transfers. Hopefully with a couple of decent recruiting classes to build a solid base complimented by select transfers, Golden can get this thing going.
"What ifs" are just that speculation. Applyby didn't stay and Keyontae was not going to get cleared by our doctors due to the pacemaker he wears as well as other problems. Kansas State was one of the ONLY schools that was willing to let Keyontae play. That is just the way things turned out.
I openly thought App gives us 15-16 a game if he stays. My question would be how did we not get him to stay? He would have by far been the best guard on the roster. I say that knowing many didn’t realize how good he really was.
The way I read your analysis about impatience, if you want to call it that, applies equally well to to MW and TG. Who recruited the team that you think was a final four team? Who got bad breaks of KJ going down? Who had to handle covid? Why would impatience not apply to MW. We were patient enough with him to give him 7 years and when he got really bad breaks - KJ, Covid - we dumped him. Maybe that's where we should have applied some patience? I actually think not. I'm not defending MW, I wanted him gone long before he was, although I really liked the guy on a personal level. I have always been lukewarm on Todd Golden and our attempts to catch lightning in a bottle again. But what about TG deserves 10 years of patience? IMO, we do not give TG 10 freaking years. Are you kidding me? Personally, I'm not interested in building a Leonard Hamilton fsu. There are established basketball coaches out there. If TG doesn't work out in the next couple years (and right now that is a huge open questions - next year could be UGLY without CC). Let's go get an established coach. There is patience and then there is foolishness.
You are acting as if Mike White was terrible. He wasn’t. We usually made the tournament and won a game. I don’t think that it’s foolish to keep that kind of a coach. Anyways, that’s why I stayed away from the boards. I just enjoy my Gators more without the constant bickering. Not saying anything negative about you… I just don’t enjoy this conversation you and I are having right now.
If you can't handle my response to your post - and my response was perfectly reasonable, logic based and not offensive - then you might not want to post. IMO, MW wasn't progressing. I don't like the circumstances of his departure - after KJ and after Covid. But honestly, if we were going to hire Golden, I would have just as soon kept him.
I didn’t say I can’t handle it. I said I’m not enjoying it. Then on top of it you negative rate me with come on man for no reason. That’s the kind of thing I’m talking about. Just unnecessary irritation. I’m probably better off lurking. Sorry guys.
No . . . we're not being aggressive in any disagreements on this side in Hallgator's NBN. Keeping Coach White would have been foolish, IMO. Although I supported him until the day he quit to take the LegHumper job, he enjoyed more than enough time and had established a clear ceiling. Coach Golden has not even started showing his ceiling so there's most likely nothing but upside with little downside risk and that can be managed, if necessary. I don't think keeping Coach White would have been preferred at all by most, except to maintain the status quo. However, remember, he quit on Florida. I understand calling or hoping for patience since we've been having that same discussion in Swamp Gas since mid-Fall last year. Actually mid-June last year.
I marked the post come on man because your response that I was acting as though MW was terrible was not at all what I posted. But you win. I won't respond to any of your posts.
Hi Murp, glad to see you posting! Welcome back! I'm 100% on board with you ............. in Basketball and Football. The fan base needs to let both these guys work and not hang lead weights around their neck.
TG should get the same patience as other coaches. I’m in the 3 year camp then reevaluate at 5. White got too much time. But let’s remember year 1 isn’t year 3. If he hasn’t pulled a top 4 seed by year 3 then I’m quite worried
I will be at the tournament Wednesday and Thursday, hoping to see the Gators Win! Nashville changes since Covid, across the street from the arena, Fifth and Broadway opened, multiple stories of restaurants, Bars and Entertainment. Brooklyn Bowl north of the arena has bowling, food and bands playing every night. Top Golf is not to far from Brooklyn Bowl. Broadway has all the famous honky tonks, take your pick. The Bridgestone Arena is on Broadway between third and fourth street. The Ryman Auditorium is one block away. The Gator Club of Nashville is about 250 people and most will be there. Hoping we end strong and make a good showing! The west end has two Marriott’s that are more reasonable than the downtown hotels, FYI, this is near Vanderbilt and is a short Uber ride to Broadway.
It was mentioned during a broadcast that he had a pacemaker implanted for afib. I believe that it was said during the KS/UF game. That was the only time I heard that.
That's a huge stretch to say that we failed to protect his health. He went down Dec 2020 and if he was good to play this year, he was probably good to go last season. As with Scott Brantley, he was likely to never to be cleared to play again at UF. We did not fail to protect his health. And while due to HIPAA rules, we were never going to get the scoop on what happened, but I seem to recall that for a while they were saying they didn't know what caused the collapse. Unless KSU has a really good understanding of what happened, they are putting him at risk of a repeat. Regarding Appleby, last year he was a turn over waiting to happen. Know one knows if the progressions was due to better coaching or simply a year of maturation/growth.
