I prefer this over an earlier projection that had us matched up with Oklahoma. I would love it if we could get Auburn back on the schedule, though. Bama getting Miss St instead of LSU, and Georgia getting USC instead of Tennessee is pretty weak.
No thanks. I couldn't possibly disagree more. That wouldn't be nice at all, IMO. First of all, I appreciate one cupcake game against an opponent like Furman or Western Mich or whoever early in the year. It gives our starters a tuneup to shake off the rust, allows our reserves to see significant playing time, and our opponent gets paid handsomely to come to Gainesville and get stomped. Matchups like that are a big reason why the smaller schools can afford to keep their athletic programs afloat, and our guys get some valuable reps without much of a risk. Everyone wins. Second, I want to keep our annual game against FSU, and always enjoy the occasional matchup against another bigtime schools we don't see very often. Locking in an all-conference schedule is silly when you have, what, 130+ D1 schools now? Why limit yourself to teams strictly within your conference? I think there should be a 12-team limit for every conference, and they should remain regional and fairly balanced. Playoff expansion and superconferences equate to great income for a handful of schools (that were already extremely well off financially), and bad for everyone else, including the fans. I know I'm in the minority with my opinion, but so be it. TV money and greed will continue to prevail, pageantry and traditions will die, and the overall product will be watered down and lose a lot of the luster that made college football so popular over the last several decades. I hope I'm wrong.
Yes, Barn takes one for the SEC, but would they really want different permanent games?: UF: UG Aub USC UG: UF Aub USC USC: UG UF UK Miz: OU am Ole UK: TN Van USC TN: Bam UK Van Van: UK Tn MS UT: AM OU ARK OU: TX ARK MIZ Am: TX LSU Miz LSU: AM Bam MS Aub: Bam UF UG Bam: Auburn TN LSU MS: LSU Ole Van Ole: MS Ark Miz Ark: UT OU Ole
Very well stated LS1. I agree with most of your comments and I too hope you, (we) are wrong about the direction of college sports, but the trend doesn’t look good.
No surprise - just like it’s no surprise that Bama and Georgia seem to always avoid playing each other in the regular season. The SEC is run by Bama and UGa and biased and crooked as hell.
I like tgat with possibly two max as fsu is every year. I wouldn’t mind a second ooc as long as it was someone like Utah. No cupcakes ever, if they need a tuneup they can play preseason games that don’t count. Playing games with forgone conclusions is lame.
Maybe need four permanent rivals if they go this way. We get three teams every year that are actually trying to build national championship teams while others get none. There’s no possibility of making fair schedules. The only way something like this would be fair is if they were divisions and only division records were counted to win the division leading to a sec playoff spot. It’s going to be a complete mess and no way to have a legit sec championship. Might as well not have one and go straight to the 12 tram playoff.
hopefully he has self control over the summer because didnt they say either last year or the year before, it was the summer break that balloned him back up
