Tomorrow's game is postponed as per today's game summaries on the main UF softball schedule/roster/news website. Gator twitter now says "due to weather" but the official Tampa forecast for tomorrow is 66 and partly cloudy.
yeah, Its already off the SEC site schedule for Sunday..strange.. Field flooded maybe?? Only other guess is someone on one of teams tested positive for the sniffles(covid) Cant believe still an issue(or ever was) but saw basketball game ppd last week b/c of.
Meantime, it’s only a few games and the competition hasn’t been great, the offense looks better so far. And that’s encouraging.
You would think they would have cancelled one of them and kept the UF game. Then again they may have been okay with not facing us at the moment lol.
Those other teams came a long way with high travel costs for airfare. For UF, we own the bus and its a relatively short drive. Makes sense to me. And it actually looks like the deal we cut with USF for the postponement has them paying to come to us, so net cost to UF = zero. But I doubt ESPN2 was happy with the hole in their programming. Not sure how (or if) money changes hands for that.
I was at the games yesterday and the last inning of the Illinois State game was a riot. The game is totally out of hand and Walton unloads his bench to get this thing over with. Wellen who never bats knocks two runs in and Gigante the freshman hits a grand slam. How did that work out? Anyway, those two girls were so excited and it was fun to watch.
Those other ones probably didn’t have a make up opportunity while ours did. Plus those teams came a long way and spent good chunk of money on their relatively small budgets to play these games. So it makes sense to me.
Just looking from a stats perspective, some things I see in the numbers that I love compared to last year. 5 HRs already this season vs only 37 all of last year. I expect we will hit a lot more this season. In 103 ABs last season, Sam Roe walked only 3 times and had 1 HBP. In the first 3 games this season she already has 2 walks and 1 HBP. Reagan Walsh only had 10 walks in 213 ABs last season and already has 3 this season. Longley also off to a good start on that front this season as well. Love to see that growth in the sophmores. Looks like they are much more comfortable in the box with a year of experience under their belts.
Don't compare yesterday's walks to last year's. The opposing pitchers yesterday had terrible control. I could have stood up there with my bat on my shoulder and probably walked. We miss Hannah. There were a couple of hits yesterday at second that were ruled hits that she would have eaten up.
