Had his huge break at Texas and he didn't do particularly well. Actually he kind of flamed out. Kind of like Muschamp did here. Both great position coaches. Maybe they're just not head coaches. Always loved the guy. Hope it works for him somewhere. I'm actually surprised Saban didn't consider Champ for his DC at Bamer. Maybe he has too much $ and lost his motivation? Who knows? If we add someone, we could use a new innovator type. His name always comes up like all of our old QB's, but...heck... movin on Go Gators.

He still got his shot at Texas regardless and the only thing that got him fired was not being a good head coach.
cause we had the Jimmys and Joes. We sucked in '07 on D and that's one reason why Tebow won the Heisman in '07 cause we knew we had to out-score opponents to have a chance to win.
FWIW, Charlie Strong has spent more years coaching at UF than any other assistant football coach. I think he coached under four different UF head coaches starting as a GA. Would be great to see him end his career in some role at UF.
I think he could be a useful off-field analyst or position coach/ co-dc for us. I think we'll see improvement from Patrick Toney's defense this year. I like Toney and he's regarded as up and coming but the fact is he is still a young guy who hasn't been a DC long and any experience we can bolster around him would be beneficial to the program.
That's exactly what i was thinking. Experience at this level is always useful. Especially for a young up and coming coach.
Right - and then who’s in charge? Sounds good on paper - not so sure it would work in this situation though, especially now that Toney has been top dog on Defense for over a year.
The Louisville job was his big break and he did very well there. Agree that Texas and USF were his downfall. Not sure he adapted his defensive philosophy to adjust to new high scoring passing offenses.
He doesn't have to be THE DC but he's a good recruiter, good character, and already knows the culture of UF. All this youth on staff, it would be nice to have an experienced statesman.

Absolutely! He can still tell you the halftime score (and final score) of the 1993 Kentucky game or the 1997 South Carolina game . . . much less any of the bigger games. I can't even call my grandchildren the right names sometimes. LOL!
If I were any coach at Florida I would be trying to get Spurrier to set up in the booth as an analyst and just watch at his leisure and give me input.
