My grandparents were strangers coming to this country, as were all of our ancestors I suspect. If we shared a border, they would have come across anyway they could have. We have been waiting for the two sides to figure this out forever, blame them.
Within any large group of people, there will be bad apples. It's inevitable. Take any college football roster, which has up to 85 scholarship players, and usually another 15 or so walk-ons. It's almost a guarantee at least one of them will get in trouble and have a criminal record before they leave campus. Hopefully, it's nothing serious. As for immigrants, multiple studies show they commit less crime than citizens. Here's one. I can link plenty of others if you'd like. Like this one. As for labor participation, it sits in the US around 62.5%. Out of the 11 million undocumented here, remove around 1 million who are school aged, and there are 8 million or so in our work force, giving them a labor participation rate around 80%.
I think Tilly is just saying that if the thread title were on Jeopardy, literally any answer given would have been correct. (So long as the answer is in the form of a question.)
Because it is in history of those same people? Who is picking your fruit and veggies? Not Americans. Edited to add: Strangers are friends you just haven't met yet!
If only there was a legal process to get into the US and to become as US citizen and to be able to work in the US. Damn the us for not letting anyone in and making people have to sneak across illegally. I mean if there was a legal way to do it it would seem that legal, law abiding immigrants would be able to get in and others who didn’t want to be law abiding would just sneak across….
There ya'll go again hating it when we remind you that the whole world is not blue. But again... Just like the SOTU response thread... We have a liberal OP apparently unaware that the thing they complain about is literally common place from both wings and it's why some of us have abandoned parties. Both sides have prepared gloomy rebuttals to the State of The Union. Both sides are forced to finance things they find morally corrupt. ...And btw I am on the record here for disagreeing with DeSantis on this. Pretty sure I havent defended him on this matter.
How about all of American history. From the Brit colonists to Irish potato famine victims, to E. European Ashkenazi Jews, to Chinese, to Mexicans, and now mostly C. and S. Americans, they leave their home because of some combination of famine, war, violence, abject poverty, and the complete inability to carve out a living. America has been the land of opportunity, in contrast. Whom among us can't trace their heritage back to some immigrant(s)? Only those who are 100% Native American. My kids can trace their Mom's side back to Alsace/Lorraine Franco/Germans who fled violence in that area, Irish potato famine refugees, and Ashkenazi Jews escaping religious persecution from Hungary, Poland, and Ukraine around the turn of the 20th century. I say my kids cover all of Europe, minus the peninsulas. The story of immigrants is mostly the same regardless of where or when they come. The zero generation carve out a living that isn't grand, but better than back home. First generation Americans do better, because they at least graduate high school and speak English. And by the second gen American, they are fully integrated. Today's immigrants are no different. Doesn't cover 100% of the immigrants, of course. As stated before, any large population group will have some bad apples. This includes immigrants. But for the most part, immigrants come here for a better life. And as long as we have jobs for them that would otherwise go unfilled, why shouldn't we give them legally, the chance to succeed? And we have immigrants working jobs that would otherwise go unfilled. 8 million undocumented in the work force, less than 6 million on unemployment, and about 11 million current job openings.
I demand fiscal responsibility! Wait, sorry, wrong thread. Meant to demand that in a thread about the Democratic President. Republicans can be as wasteful as they want. Nothing to see here.
This new bill was passed to cover DeSantis’ ass. What he did before was blatantly illegal according to Florida law. Now he has cover.
You can tell by the funny emojis that some just don't get it ..... or posses much compassion for their fellow man.
Not to get out of hand but...look at the crime figures and look at the people committing them! White redneck drug addicted ignorant Floridians! Check out the arrest reports! Desantis isn't saving anything at all.
