Disney’s Reedy Creek gets new name, DeSantis appointees under bill

I'll bet the Villages were developed like that. But these said developers building these communities are not running these municipalities after they build them, are they? That one point seems to be the tipping point for all the Reedy Creak debate.

Do you think that this is simply political or is there a real difference in a developer building a complete community and one doing the same but being a private corporation that perpetually runs their own built community?

It seems to me that there are what seems like some obvious differences in managing these municipalities after you build them. There are also the other business that Disney runs on that same land that makes this different than just a complete development from the ground up, with no residual corporation left on said development, and the municipal controls..

 

I believe this to be true. Politics seems to rear it's ugly head far too often when these sort of disputes come up. I have to say that the timing of what you posted above is more than coincidental.

 

The loud trashy parent thing is a more recent phenomena since DeSantis gave them more of a voice.

 

Hope the developer will have panther-wise and bear-wise covenants baked into the HOA agreements

we even have information on feline viruses that panthers are known to carry. anything and everything the conservancy and others could throw at it. bear proof containers are baked into the zoning. long perimeter lakes along with panther fencing at breaks should deter all but the most hardy unless they flank the site through old estate lots or decide to swim the 150' or so.

 

Again, Disney made our state what we are and last I checked, they are not a communist country. It wasn't until they made a company statement about the "stope woke" law did this become a problem. I always looked at is as an agreement between the state and Disney.

 

Developers take out bond money to pay for extra infrastructure that will support some of these mega communities instead of footing the bill themselves. It's called a CDD - Community Development District - an extra Valorem tax that has to be paid per homesite. So the buyers end up paying this extra tax each year for 25-30 years. The Villages were the first one that I know of to do this. I don't think they provide utilities.

 

Disagree with Disney made our state what we are. Disney and the ACOE destroyed ecosystems from Orlando to Lake Kissimmee Lake O the Caloosahatchee and beyond.

 

I meant financially. Our main economic base is tourism and made us the number one destination on earth. I don't like what has happened to our ecosystems, but without Disney, people wouldn't be coming here.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting but personally I’d love to see the citrus industry revived and farmers and ranchers prosper vs land developers. Doesn’t look hopeful though.

 

Oh, hayel no. Too much money in putting more people here. I loved smelling orange blossoms driving down hwy 27, now it's all houses and stop lights.

 

Good background piece. Not a lot of changes, but DeSantis has cowed business leaders from even insincere statements opposing hatred and bigotry.

I agree with Frum. That is an apropos quote.

That said, Sean Snaith, an economist at the University of Central Florida, doesn’t think Disney has all that much to worry about. “This is a company that operates around the world, including in Communist China,” he told The Dispatch. “It’s not something they can’t navigate.”

 

We have a lot of coastline and many other natural beauties in this state that say otherwise. Now I am not discounting the reality Disney is also a major driver in helping tourism. But this state survives without Disney.

 

It would be a major hit that would take another large entity to come here and employ thousands. Think Amazon. The coastline communities are well known for their low wages, we would need high paying jobs.

 

WDW is the number one tourist destination in the world.

 

Sure it would be felt. But Disney is not the end all be all. We would move on without it. I could care less. Just glad I have no reason to go anymore with the kids ages…

 

I am glad you admit this is nothing but political retribution. I'd love to see Disney move to another state. Do you know how many small businesses are dependent on Disney's location and the amount of tourism dollars it brings to FL? You'd see a full 180 on this political attack on Disney. All of LBV, Kissimmee and surrounding area would crater...it would be a ghost town. All because Desantis threw one of his hissy fits. If the GOP thinks Desantis is a likeable candidate on a national stage, you are in for a huge let down. Centrists don't want drama wars. They/we do not want them.
