Do you think it might be a good idea to bring him in as a paid consultant a la Pasqualoni? Our defenses in the two natty's in 06 and 08 were not to shabby
That would suck! He's also a very good recruiter which is exactly what we need to build up our D after Mullen and Co. left much to be desired on the recruiting side. I hope the rich don't get richer!
He always seems comfortable here. I'm not sure he does much heavy lifting on the recruiting side anymore, though. But you give him a good defense and he can make it great. And I think we'll have a very good defense next year.
Plus, if he's leaving Miami because they won't make him DC, I doubt he'd want to come here in any lesser capacity.
Didn't the SEC have problem with letting CS come back to coach in the SEC, for some unspecified violation?
Sounds like there was a hand shake agreement to be the DC if Steele left and of course those agreements are worthless. No on him coming back, 2008 was a long time ago.
When Strong was at USF he got caught using non-coaching-staff to participate is skill instructions with the players. His penalty for the violation (if he coaches again) will be a one game suspension.
Charlie Strong would be a strong (no pun intended) addition to any staff. But, if I’m not mistaken, he was not happy with something at UF when he left. Don’t think I’m imagining this because he has always been a guy I thought, and still do, has a lot to offer a college football program. His signed picture with my wife taken at one of Urban Meyers fan day promos still hangs on our “Gator Room” wall. Maybe someone reading this will recall what, if anything, he was upset with.
Could be. He had been a graduate assistant for us before he was on the defensive staff for Zooker and then Meyer if memory serves me correctly. He could have felt slighted when we hired Muschamp. He was our interim head coach for the Peach Bowl game after Zook finished the regular season. His stock was rising at Louisville and we apparently didn’t give him a call after the Muschamp or McElwain firings. Anyway, I feel like that ship has sailed.
Bring the Mayor of Gainesville back where he belongs! I don't expect that to happen, but he spent a lot of years at Florida. I like the man.
If he's leaving Miami for the same reason (not making him DC) he's not going to be DC at BAMA either. I think some one with PROVEN (two national titles and probably our strongest defense in recent memory) would be a welcomed addition to the good guys. Bring back home the Mayor of Gainsville!!
Different time and administration (Foley vs. Stricklin). No one from them is running the show now. I know he likes the state of Florida, for goodness sake he took the USF job. and decided to stick around and coach at scUM. I think a call is worth to see if it can happen. If the response is no then everyone goes on their way.
