PolitiFact - Social media posts mislead about virologist’s cause of death

Fuller served on the Food and Drug Administration’s vaccine and biological products advisory committee, playing a key role in vetting and approving emergency use authorization for the COVID-19 vaccine in the United States. She died Nov. 18 at age 67 from an illness not related to COVID-19, her employer, the University of Michigan Medical School, told PolitiFact.

^ If she died within thirty days of receiving a vaccine, she died from the vaccine.

If not, she likely succumbed to the effects of Long Vaccine.

Looks like both sides continue to celebrate death.

    Gross.

Internet fact! Nobody died suddenly before the COVID vaccine!

As for post-vaccination deaths, we have a study looking at 7-days post vaccination. No significant difference between populations when sorted by age between vaccinated an unvaxxed. Higher vaccinated overall, but that's because the older the population, the greater the vaccination rate. And a group of 80 year olds are more likely to "die suddenly" than any group of 20 year olds.

This study looks at 30-day mortality rates after vaccination in Qatar. 99% of their vaccines were of the mRNA variety. Their conclusion:

In conclusion, deaths attributable to SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination are rare and the risk is lower than the overall crude mortality rate in Qatar. These results provide strong assurance regarding the safety of the mRNA vaccines. Our study also provides a strong framework and methodology for future studies to determine associations between vaccination and vaccine related deaths. [emphasis added]
I wish people would stop with the post hoc fallacy that the vaccine is causing an increase in deaths. The data does not support this conclusion at all. What we are seeing is an increase in coverage for those who "die suddenly." The same number of people died suddenly before COVID. The difference is, their deaths weren't reported all over social media. And nobody cried, "Derp derp derp..." after every unfortunate death.

You make my point. From 2020 every death was from Covid. And back then fact-checkers weren’t like dogs in heat jumping on stories of young people dying, with the implication that ‘Covid’ was the cause. To the contrary, if other causes were in view, these cases underwent background revision. You almost had to ferret them out.

They won't stop. Same people that think it's "their bad health" when 40y/o an older people died after getting covid now claim anyone who dies that was vaccinated at any time did so because of the vaccine.

Lots of fault on both sides for the lack of a nuanced discussion. I have very moderate takes of the situation myself and think there is a huge spectrum of "appropriate response" depending on the evolution of the virus along the way but the anti-vaccine nutters are every bit as unhinged and irrational as the people people riding bicycles with masks on...

Really? The CDC would disagree with you:

COVID is listed third, and that's important for several reasons. One, COVID represents a likely increase in expected deaths during this time period. And two, it's the only communicable disease on the list of top 10. You can be in a room full of people with heart issues, cancer, diabetes, etc., and not be in any danger of catching it from others. COVID? Different story.

And in UK, unlike 2020, when excess deaths were assumed to be the effect of a medical emergency, government remains stubbornly averse why excess deaths remain staggeringl
Question for you: if you had to guess, how many Americans do you suppose died from vaccines ?

We can address excess deaths in a bit.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 9 women died from blood clots with the J&J vaccine. This is why these vaccines were completely pulled from the US, even though women were the only ones at risk. We had enough mRNA vaccines, and didn't need J&J.

As for mRNA vaccine deaths, there's been 224 million plus Americans vaccinated. Really hard to pin down deaths caused by these vaccinations. But the Qatari study shows that vaccinated people don't die at any greater rate than unvaccinated for non-COVID reasons. Probably some deaths attributed to the vaccine, but not to many. And age adjusted, most of these deaths were likely from people who were unlikely to live very long anyway, and the strain of the vaccine triggering the immune system meant that any case of COVID or flu would likely be deadly for these people.

Do you realize that that is the exact same argument used by people who opposed lockdowns and mask and vaccine mandates, that only people vulnerable to Covid were essentially the nearly dead ?

My position is unchanged. If one person died of the vaccines, that’s one more than was killed by a fictitious pathogen. Highly ironic that the cure killed more than the made-up disease.

Another question: does the Qatar study show that the vaccinated and unvaccinated are dying at the same rate ? Just want to be sure I’m reading that right.

Given the lack of anything to vaccinate for, please explain why anti-vaxers are nutters and also explain why people who get them are not.

1)Only one side is pushing lies, “celebrating” deaths not likely connected to any vaccine. That is hardly the same as dancing on the grave of a vocal P.O.S.

2)I have no issue celebrating the death of habitual liars and far right provocateurs, most are actually the dregs of society, net negatives. Unlike the people they spread lies about…

Your position is silly. Viruses exist and COVID is a deadly one. COVID is no more than a made-up disease than cancer or the flu.

The Qatari study shows rate of death for vaccinated unvaccinated groups compared to expected rate of deaths for the same groups by age. Found no increase in expected deaths from the vaccinated, but did see an increase for the unvaccinated. Shows that for the vaccinated groups, those who died from COVID were in high risk groups, and likely do die soon anyway. For those in the unvaxxed group, the higher rate of expected death is likely due to COVID.

And this is the argument for lockdowns and masks. For the unvaccinated (and lockdowns mostly occurred before the vaccine was available), there is a significantly higher rate of death. When the entire population is unvaccinated, as it was in the time pre-vaccine, not locking down causes an increase of death; as well as other serious medical outcomes where the person survives, but still has long-term health issues, such as reduced lung function, for example.

When the population is mostly vaccinated, then the need for lockdowns goes away. The rate of death is about equal, and those who do succumb to COVID are highly likely already in bad shape, and aren't long for this world regardless. Sad, but unfortunately true.

We see higher death totals than expected in all populations, unvaccinated, that did not lock down during high transmission dates. Early UK, Sweden, and US states with lax lockdowns all show higher death rates than neighboring areas that did lock down. France, Norway, and neighboring US states, for example.

Now adjust for no one having died of a fictitious pathogen.
