I think all of the oh crap comments stem from military surveillance back in Aug 2019 when we discovered the US was using balloons to surveil citizens.

Pentagon Is Testing High Altitude Surveillance Balloons to 'Watch Everything at Once': 'It's Disturbing'
The FCC filing was made by an aerospace and defense company Sierra Nevada Corporation. The documents explain that the craft are designed to "provide a persistent surveillance system to locate and deter narcotic trafficking and homeland security threats."

Pentagon testing mass surveillance balloons across the US
The US military is conducting wide-area surveillance tests across six midwest states using experimental high-altitude balloons, documents filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reveal.

That’s right! I remember those stories. I think they even had blimps. Never heard another story after that. Somehow I don’t think the surveillance was discontinued.

That said we’re all being survieled like crazy by businesses (MSG - facial recognition) govt and law enforcement. I’m reminded of the guy who killed the 4 kids in Idaho. They lost him when he left WA for Pennsylvania for about 18 hours but a license plate reader pinged his location to the FBI way out of the way in Colorado.

If this gets out China will paint “made in the USA” on the next one.

They couldn't see these giant balloons?
Pentagon says it had 'an awareness gap' that led to failure to detect 3 Chinese balloons under Trump | CNN Politics
The American military had a “domain awareness gap” that allowed three other suspected Chinese spy balloons to transit the continental United States undetected under the Trump administration, the Pentagon general responsible for providing air and missile defense over North America said on Monday.
“Every day as a NORAD commander, it’s my responsibility to detect threats to North America. I will tell you that we did not detect those threats,” Gen. Glen VanHerck, commander of US Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command said when asked about the three other balloons.
“And that’s a domain awareness gap that we have to figure out, but I don’t want to go into further detail.”
VanHerck added that the intelligence community after the fact was able to gather intelligence “from additional means that made us aware of those balloons that were previously approaching North America or transited North America.”

Old aerials or satellite images found the previous incursions?

This is Trump's defense, his people were too incompetent, so they can't be blamed for it?

I don't think this one is Trump specific unless it can be shown that he took action that caused this military surveillance failure. These people aren't chosing whether or not to pay attention based on who is in the white house.

I suspect the US is more concerned about killing its citizens than China.

Why do you think Trump skipped all those security briefings? Two words....

‘They Were Caught Lying’: Former Trump Admin Officials React To Kirby’s Chinese Balloon Pronouncement | The Daily Caller

The Biden administration is offering to brief former Trump officials on Chinese balloons because Biden officials were “caught lying” and are “scrambling” about their own Chinese spy balloon incident, former acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Richard Grenell told the Daily Caller.

“Every Trump national security official on the record over the last several days saying this isn’t true,” Grenell added, referring to the Biden administration’s claim that three Chinese balloons had crossed into U.S. airspace during the Trump era.

Former President Donald Trump, as well as a number of former national security officials including John Bolton, Robert O’Brien and John Radcliffe, refuted the Biden administration’s claim about the balloons during Trump’s tenure.

Then why are "senior defense officials" now, as in the last week, saying that the flights were "detected" by the DOD after 1/20/2021? When were they "detected"? Last week? 6 months ago? And how were they detected after they occurred and not prior to 1/20/2021? What is the DOD not disclosing this info?

They do keep those old satellite images and are allowed to look at them.

Rubio admitted it happened and even said there were Twitter posts and picture of the balloons at the time in the CNN link a few pages back…. But for some reason, apparently, Trumps team couldn’t make the connection…
