13.85 now huh? This number keeps changing. ESPN reported it as $15mil just last week. This guys says he’s seen the contract, I’m still not buying the amount or the fact this guy saw the contract either
That’s insane. No way someone of rashadas caliber should be offered that much money. I personally think the amount is more embarrassing than the fact it fell through. Are we so desperate?
At this point too many legit outlets are reporting the amount (I saw $13.85MM listed weeks ago) for it to be fabricated, IMO. Andy Staples says that he himself saw the contract. No reason to state that if it wasn't true. And the $500,000 up front? Isn't that an NCAA violation? Or do they mean when he arrives on campus? If it was a "signing bonus", that's a problem.
No high school player of ANY caliber...EVER...deserved that amount. That includes Timmy T, who arguably was the biggest "NIL" college player of the last 20 years. Pretty frustrating to me that our collective even offered it.
I think it's only a violation if it's Florida paying the money. And if it's being paid in return for his services (pay for play).
I saw the contract too. Why would you believe him more than me? Neither of us can prove that we saw the contract.
Haha...valid point. I'm definitely trusting Andy Staples' word when he said he saw it. Should I? Maybe not, but here are my reasons: Andy has a national reputation as a reliable sports writer to uphold. Not sure why he would risk that. This is a big story. The details they shared about the contract were very specific, which is also unusual/risky to fabricate. I heard that exact same amount ($13.85MM) shortly after the story broke (I can't recall which outlet, but it also was a reputable one - ESPN/major newspaper). I have not seen a single outlet refute the amount. If it was not correct, I think someone who knows something would have come out and refuted it (since it garnered so much national attention). Your point is valid. It is POSSIBLE that everyone is sharing the same fabricated number. But at this point, I really think that evidence points towards it being legit...which is a travesty, IMO.
That they are the same amount means that they came from the same source. Not everybody has a reason to speak to media and most have a reason to definitely not share with media. The one that has a reason make it look that amount and to share it, is the source. The media isn't getting 5 independently different sources who saw a signed contract. Just think who has the most to gain by making it appear that large.
Is it possible the contract being reported is legit, but once UF (Strickland and Nape) got word about it they said Hell No!. Hence the abrupt termination. I mean, the assumptions so many have is that UF was privy to these 3rd party dealings through the entire timeline and was ok with those figures until they couldnt produce. That just may not be the case. Maybe UF is the voice of reason and shutdown the idiocy demonstrated by the 3rd party as soon as they became aware.
I can't believe that all boosters who would be necessary to get this contract to Rashada into reality through the particular booster group mentioned would agree to that amount on those terms. I believe that unless that group's ceiling was unlimited (it's not), CBN would not be on board with that amount as it would likely mean that finite money in the group would result in CNB not getting an amazing QB every year or every other year, which would lead to boom and bust cycles. With what we have been hearing of money being thrown around at other schools, this contract would have been wildly out of place and shouldn't have gone through for good reason.
Your assuming it takes a group to come up with that much cash. There are individuals that can certainly carry tgat load alone.
That's certainly possible, esp initially when all the outlets were sharing the same details. It's anybody's guess who shared that number. Very plausible it was someone with secondary gain from it being leaked. But regarding this specific Twitter post/feed, you think either (1) the contract that was shared was a fake or (2) Staples is fabricating the details? Both are possible, of course, but both seem unlikely to me.
Those big fish would likely do it through a different group than the one mentioned in the Athletic article, where they have more control.
I think it is likely a draft presented as a contract for the transaction. My guess is that one side thought they had an agreement but didn't and were very salty.
could be cuz he wasn’t recruited by Kelly or his staff. Quite common for players not to enjoy playing for a new staff that maybe isn’t as invested in them as the coaches who recruited him.
I apologize to my fellow gator fans for offering JR 13.8 million. I was tired of Miami buying off our targets so, in a drunken stupor, just threw out some numbers and it went from there. After sobering up and seeing that I was 13.79 million short, backed out of the deal.
