I love Kow's enthusiasm, but vs Kentucky he took a lot of ill-advised, low percentage shots early in the shot clock.
Just added it up. He's down to 28% from 3 for the season, but a closer look: Pre SEC play: 19-44 or 43.1% SEC play: 7-46 or 15.2% Same number of games so same # of attempts per game (roughly). And it wasn't a slow fade. More of a light switch being turned off. He's lost his shot since SEC play period. The only game he's shot over his current (28%) average in league play were USC (3/7) and MSST (2/6). Also had six 0-fer games. I don't mean this as a knock on the kid. I know he's trying. I also think this is CTG's approach - let them shoot their way out. It's kinda the anti-MW, so in a way I'll take it, but dang. I used to love it when he rose to shoot, now I just wince.
He hasn’t lost his shot, he’s lost the ability to discern a good shot from an awful one. I put it in another thread, but literally every time he comes in, first possession (at most second) he jacks up a contested three. 5 of his 7 shots the other night were bad shots. When he came in the second half, he jacked up a bad three that he missed, got beat on a straight line drive on defense (from mid court), came back down tossed up that crazy sideways runner from the Ft line that missed, then didn’t fight through a a screen on defense and gave up a three. He seems to have no self awareness about what he is doing, since it continues to happen every game. But in this case when he came in we had started a comeback, down 7 with the ball, after those two possessions it was 12 and basically a loss barring a miracle.
I don't usually comment on players but KR just needs to focus on defense and moving without the ball on offense. I have to question what is TG seeing in practice?
Reeves is definitely pressing. I'm fine with him shooting but only if he manufactures a good look. He's been hurting the team lately.
It’s because he’s trying to shoot it as if he’s Steph Curry, and doesn’t need to set himself. I totally see him transferring to be back with White in his home state next year.
And yet during preseason he talked about how tight he played due to fear of getting pulled when White was here.
I posted that I thought he was taking too many "hero shots" earlier in the season when he got benched - even though his shooting percentage had been pretty good. I don't want him out of the rotation but I sure wish Golden could get him to wait for better looks. He's seems a little too manic on the court sometimes. One time against UK (right side of the court about 30' from basket), he faked/jab stepped about 4 times in a couple of seconds (right/left/right/left). On the 3rd jab (to his right) it looked like, all of a sudden, he had an open straight line to the basket but he jabbed back to the left, where the defense was, so fast that I don't think he even realized he had that opening. Dial it back a tad, young man! Reminds me of the old Wooden guidance to be quick but don't hurry.
Correct. We misread his ability to score. Actually, I want him to try and score because he's athletically gifted. But his decision-making is poor and is hurting the team.
