Should’ve shot it down immediately when it enetered airspace. Now it seems like a test of some sort. Hesitation kills
I saw that and get the point. However, We got fighter jets known to fly 65k in the early 2ks. I don’t buy the military test in this. To me this is more of a moxie test

Made it look too easy. That should have been done when it was over the Aleutian Islands. Not Atlantic Ocean
Apparently jets from Shaw AFB (Sumter) shot down balloon. Talked with someone from there earlier and they saw it today overhead. Believe Shaw is home to 9th AF.
Probably correct...but there has got to be multiple layers for reasons why we didn't......some which may be very helpful to the US
Looks like we destroyed it with one shot. Probably won’t recover much if any of it other than the balloon fabric. I wish we would have done it in a way to allow it to settle slower into the water for a recovery. Would have helped to confirm what it was doing if we had the tech platform it carried.
There are ways to track that debris.....wouldn't be shocked if we recovered a great deal of it. We should have assets all up and down the coast--in the water and air
JUst as I suggested before, the only ones laughing were the ones that were clueless as to what we were doing and why. Lesson to be learned here: don't pay attention to ignorant people, much less let them get you concerned about our reputation. Hope you feel better. "Biden had been inclined to down the balloon over land when he was first briefed on it on Tuesday, but Pentagon officials advised against it, warning that the potential risk to people on the ground outweighed the assessment of potential Chinese intelligence gains." "The balloon was spotted Saturday morning over the Carolinas as it approached the coast. In preparation for the operation, the FAA Administration temporarily closed airspace over the Carolina coastline, including the airports in Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Wilmington, North Carolina. The FAA rerouted air traffic from the area and warned of delays as a result of the flight restrictions. The Coast Guard advised mariners to immediately leave the area because of U.S. military operations "that present a significant hazard." US downs Chinese balloon over ocean, moves to recover debris "Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin, III said in a statement after the balloon was shot down that "President Biden gave his authorization to take down the surveillance balloon as soon as the mission could be accomplished without undue risk to American lives under the balloon’s path." "After careful analysis, U.S. military commanders had determined downing the balloon while over land posed an undue risk to people across a wide area due to the size and altitude of the balloon and its surveillance payload. In accordance with the President’s direction, the Department of Defense developed options to take down the balloon safely over our territorial waters, while closely monitoring its path and intelligence collection activities," Austin said." Yep, between tempoarirly closing our airspace and having the Coast Guard clear out the area, there was a lot more to this operation than "Shoot it down, Bubba."
Chinese intel balloon finally shot down, but not until after reporting to Beijing, “Yes, they’re all on TikTok.
